The gaming industry continues to embrace a trend where protagonists are accompanied by companions, taking the opportunity to enhance both gameplay and narrative. Titles like God of War, with Kratos and Atreus, Death Stranding, with Sam Bridges and Lou, and The Last of Us, with Joel and Ellie, have each offered unique takes on companion dynamics. Capcom’s upcoming sci-fi action game Pragmata is set to introduce another pair with Hugh and Diana.
After previously teasing Diana’s role as a hacker with significant utility during combat, Capcom finally unveiled how this mechanic works during their latest Capcom Spotlight event. According to the demonstration, combat in Pragmata is built around cooperation between the two, with each taking on distinct roles during encounters.
Diana’s hacking ability is crucial to survival. When facing enemies, a small interface appears, allowing players to control Diana in real-time as she navigates through a series of digital nodes. If successful, her hacks can instantly strip enemies of their armour while applying powerful buffs to Hugh, such as increased damage output. These moments are not just cinematic flourishes, but rather active gameplay segments that require player input and strategy.

Once the enemy’s armour is broken, Hugh takes centre stage, acting as the primary damage dealer. Capcom confirmed that players will have access to a variety of weapons for Hugh, and that Diana’s hacks not only expose vulnerabilities but also create opportunities for tactical exploitation.
The Story in Pragmata
The sci-fi narrative of Pragmata revolves around the discovery of a powerful new material called Lunam Ore, which can be refined into Lunafilament on the moon. This futuristic substance is so versatile that it can be woven into a wide range of products, from clothing to vehicles.
However, as expected, something goes wrong. All communication between Earth and the lunar research facility abruptly ceases, prompting Hugh to launch an investigation. In addition to combat, Pragmata will also feature exploration segments. Players will use Hugh’s jetpack to traverse complex environments, while Diana’s hacking abilities will be essential for overcoming puzzles and environmental obstacles.
The game is scheduled for release sometime in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A specific release date has not been announced yet.
