FAREIDOLIA Is the Official Name of Nexon’s Project RX
After spending almost two years under its mysterious codename, Nexon has officially revealed the name of their mysterious new project: FAREIDOLIA.
The game is being developed by IO DIVISION, the team behind Blue Archive, and is built with Unreal Engine 5. Until now, much of what players had seen focused on its colourful 3D characters and everyday environments, but Nexon has finally started filling in some of the blanks around its world and story.
vtakes place in Anima City, a location found in another world that closely resembles Earth. Players take on the role of the head of the Anima City Restoration Centre while also serving as caretaker of Twilight Hall, the organisation’s headquarters.
FAREIDOLIA Introduces the Mates of Anima City
Living alongside the player are girls known as Mates, each with unusual abilities and a distinct personality. Nexon has introduced several of them alongside the name reveal. Minie is an energetic explorer obsessed with finding her next adventure, while Ohana considers herself a genius all-rounder who tends to put those talents towards mischief.
Shami is a perpetually broke cat-eared girl with exceptionally bad luck, while the more mysterious Elevator Girl is responsible for operating Twilight Hall’s lift. Character interaction appears set to be an important part of FAREIDOLIA. Nexon says the game will combine an immersive story with interactions between its cast, lifestyle content and dynamic combat, all presented through high-quality 3D visuals.
Exactly how those combat and progression systems work remains under wraps.
Tokyo Game Show Will Offer the First Demo
Players will not have to wait too long to see more. FAREIDOLIA will be playable at Nexon’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 booth when the event begins on September 17. The booth itself will recreate Twilight Hall, with areas themed around Minie, Ohana, Shami and the Elevator Girl.
Visitors will be able to try what Nexon describes as the world’s first public playable demo, as well as a smaller rock-paper-scissors activity featuring their preferred character. That makes Tokyo Game Show the next important stop for a project that has otherwise revealed relatively little since its original announcement.
No Release Date Just Yet
For now, however, the codename era is officially over. Between its new title, Anima City setting, named cast and upcoming playable demo, Nexon is finally beginning to show what IO DIVISION has been building beyond Blue Archive. Tokyo Game Show should give us the clearest indication yet of how the game actually plays.
Nexon has yet to announce a release window or confirm the final platforms for FAREIDOLIA.
