Runeomicon Launches September 16 on Steam
TLR Games and Joystick Ventures have confirmed that Runeomicon will launch on September 16 for PC via Steam. The dark fantasy tower defence game puts players firmly on the villainous side of the story. After villagers destroy his family, a wizard turns to the ancient Runeomicon and begins a ritual to summon Ilur, the Goddess of Death, in the hope of taking revenge.
The catch is that the ritual has to be performed by hand. Players must draw increasingly complex runes in real time to generate arcane energy, all while waves of peasants, priests, knights and other enemies close in on the sanctuary.
Drawing Runes Is Central to Survival
Every rune successfully completed grants power, while a failed attempt gives players nothing. That means every second spent carefully tracing a symbol is also another second for the enemy to push closer. As the ritual progresses, players can use the titular Runeomicon to deploy towers, cast spells, summon eldritch creatures and strengthen their defences.
There are five levels of increasingly complex runes to master, alongside six summonable gods, each bringing three distinct magical abilities and new defensive options. The campaign spans seven worlds, with more than 20 enemy types, two bosses and level-specific challenges designed to test both rune drawing and broader strategy.
Six Gods Change How Each Ritual Plays Out
Successfully awakening a god does more than simply unlock another powerful ability in Runeomicon. Each one introduces new upgrades, defences and tactical options that can change how later rituals are approached. Players can then select previously summoned gods from altars across the world map and bring their powers into future battles.
Back at the wizard’s lair, players can practise drawing runes without an angry mob at the door, purchase permanent upgrades and uncover more of the game’s lore.
Six different tower types are also available, each with three upgrade levels and two possible final evolutions, giving players room to build different defensive setups across the campaign.
Runeomicon Arrives in September
Executive Producer Arturo Monedero says the team wanted first-time players to panic as enemies advance while they struggle to complete each rune, turning the central drawing mechanic into something that becomes more natural over time.

“You are not the hero of this story,” Monedero said, “and by the time the runes feel like muscle memory, you stop wanting to be.”
With tower defence, rune drawing and the promise of eventually summoning the Goddess of Death, Runeomicon certainly has a distinctive way of making players work for their revenge.
Runeomicon launches on September 16 on PC via Steam and is now available to wishlist.
