Sega Drops New Shinobi Art of Vengeance Gameplay Details

While the gaming industry continues to be flooded with AAA titles, it’s always exciting to see developers and publishers breathe new life into classic franchises through more creative, indie-spirited projects. Interestingly, two classic ninja-themed projects are making a comeback. Alongside Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound from Koei Tecmo, SEGA is also reviving one of its dormant franchises with Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, aiming to blend modern design with a classic feel.

Following its initial announcement, SEGA and Lizardcube — the studio behind Streets of Rage 4 — have finally revealed more extensive gameplay footage for the 2D action platformer.

With the paramilitary faction known as ENE Corp seizing territories across the globe, it is up to the Oboro Clan and the legendary Joe Musashi to stop them in their tracks. Lord Ruse, the mastermind behind ENE Corp, is well aware of the danger posed by the clan, and is preemptively striking with a full-scale assault on Oboro Village. And it will be up to you to fight back and put an end to this chaos.

The newly released gameplay trailer offers a deeper look at the game’s various stage designs, capturing the spirit of classic action games while injecting modern touches. Players will need to master jumping, rolling, and other movements to escape danger and progress.

One of the standout elements revealed is Musashi’s loyal companion, Yamato — a dog who is far from ordinary. In one particularly striking scene, Yamato transforms into a large mount, allowing Musashi to pursue a towering monster across the backdrop of a fast-paced stage. These sections will challenge players to dodge obstacles while maintaining the chase, adding variety to the gameplay experience.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is scheduled for release on August 29. It will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
