Shadowstone Takes Tactical Roguelite Combat Into the Sunderlands
Dreamhaven and Secret Door have officially lifted the curtain on Shadowstone, a new 1–4 player tactics roguelite that builds on the world first introduced in Sunderfolk. Designed as a standalone experience, the new game shifts the focus toward run-based strategy, party composition, and repeatable challenges, while remaining accessible to both solo players and coordinated groups.
Set within the shadowstone-infested ruins of the Sunderlands, the game tasks players with leading a small party of heroes through corrupted strongholds, battling monsters and adapting to ever-changing conditions in a bid to escape and reclaim their world from dark magic. Shadowstoneis scheduled to enter Steam Early Access in 2026.
Run-Based Strategy and Party Synergies
Each run in Shadowstone begins with players selecting up to four heroes, either controlled by a single player or shared across an online co-op party. From there, the game unfolds as a series of procedurally arranged encounters, with randomised rooms, enemy layouts, and rewards ensuring no two attempts play out the same way.
Combat follows a turn-based tactical structure that emphasises positioning, timing, and ability synergy. Heroes bring highly specialised skills into battle, encouraging experimentation with party compositions rather than reliance on a single dominant strategy. Success hinges on understanding how abilities interact across heroes and using the environment itself as a weapon.
Familiar Faces and New Heroes
While Shadowstone is not a direct continuation of Sunderfolk’s campaign, it draws heavily from the same universe. Players will encounter returning heroes such as the Berserker and Pyromancer, alongside new additions including the Witch, whose abilities lean into item manipulation and battlefield control.
With the standalone title, Secret Door aims to welcome new players without prior knowledge of Sunderfolk, while still offering longtime fans a deeper, more demanding take on the Sunderlands.
Designed for Solo and Co-Op Play
Shadowstone has been built from the ground up to support both solo play and online multiplayer for up to four players. Solo players can manage multiple heroes themselves, while co-op groups divide responsibilities across the party. In both cases, mastering team synergy and adapting to unpredictable encounters is central to long-term progression.

According to Secret Door, the game draws inspiration from modern roguelikes while retaining the studio’s emphasis on shared play and strategic depth, making coordination and planning just as important as individual decision-making.
Sunderfolk 2.0 Update Arrives in March
Alongside the new game announcement, Dreamhaven also confirmed that Sunderfolk will receive a major free 2.0 update on March 10. The update introduces mouse and keyboard controls on PC, online multiplayer support, and a new Vanguard hero, expanding the roster and addressing some of the most requested features from the community.
Additional mission sets will also be added through One Shot Mode, offering new narrative scenarios and combat challenges for existing players.
Shadowstone is currently available to wishlist on Steam and the Epic Games Store, with Early Access planned for 2026.
