Shinobi: Art of Vengeance Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date Confirmed
SEGA has confirmed that Shinobi: Art of Vengeance will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 24, bringing Joe Musashi’s acclaimed return to Nintendo’s newest system.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version is now available to pre-order digitally through the Nintendo eShop, while the physical edition can be pre-ordered through select retailers. SEGA has also released a second Accolades Trailer to mark the announcement, highlighting the reception the 2D action platformer has received since launch.
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance first launched on August 29, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 release gives the game one more platform after an already strong debut.
Digital Deluxe Edition Includes SEGA Villains Stage
The Digital Deluxe Edition is also available for pre-order on Nintendo eShop. This edition includes the base game, a Digital Deluxe Upgrade, a Starter Pack of in-game items, the SEGA Villains Stage, and a Digital Artbook and Soundtrack. The Starter Pack includes the Ghost Outfit, Medic Lite Amulet and in-game currency.

The SEGA Villains Stage is one of the more notable extras, adding boss fights against iconic SEGA characters. SEGA has also confirmed that the stage will be available as standalone DLC from launch.
Players who pre-order either the physical or digital edition will receive the Original Arcade Outfit and Fortune Hunter Amulet as in-game bonuses, though SEGA notes that physical bonus availability should be checked with the selected retailer.
Lizardcube’s Shinobi Revival Finds A New Platform
Developed by Lizardcube, the studio behind Streets of Rage 4, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance brings the classic SEGA action series back as a hand-drawn 2D action platformer.
The game follows Joe Musashi after his village is burned down and his clan is turned to stone, forcing the legendary shinobi onto a revenge-driven journey against a powerful new threat. The result is a stylish revival built around precision combat, fast movement, platforming challenges and a large combo toolkit.
In our review, we praised the game’s striking hand-drawn visual direction, sharp combat, strong platforming and meaningful exploration, calling it a revival that successfully sets a new path for newcomers and longtime fans alike.
Legendary Return Continues After Strong Reception
The Nintendo Switch 2 release arrives after Shinobi: Art of Vengeance earned wider attention last year, including a nomination for Best Action Game at The Game Awards 2025.
That recognition makes the Switch 2 version more than a routine late port. For players who missed the original launch, this is another chance to experience one of SEGA’s stronger classic revivals on newer hardware.
