Sony Announces Playstation Plus Price Hike for Southeast Asia

Video games have never been a cheap hobby, and getting full enjoyment usually entails a significant cost. And amidst an already uncertain economic climate, Sony PlayStation has delivered news that no gamer in its ecosystem wants to hear: a price increase for PlayStation Plus subscriptions.

As one of the core pillars of Sony’s gaming ecosystem, PlayStation Plus is essential for accessing online multiplayer services and offers subscribers a library of top-tier games. For many, it’s an inseparable part of the PlayStation experience. Unfortunately, that experience is about to become more expensive.

Through their latest update on the PlayStation Blog, alongside the announcement of new additions to the PS Plus game catalog, such as Hogwarts Legacy and the latest title Blue Prince for higher-tier subscribers, Sony has confirmed a new round of subscription price hikes. These changes will officially go into effect starting next week, on April 16.

The revised pricing will apply across several Southeast Asian countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Below is the updated price list for each PlayStation Plus tier:

PlayStation Plus Essential

  • 1-Month Subscription: SGD 10.90 | RM 35 | THB 270 | IDR 126,000
  • 3-Month Subscription: SGD 28.90 | RM 95 | THB 720 | IDR 331,000
  • 12-Month Subscription: SGD 88.90 | RM 285 | THB 2,200 | IDR 1,010,000

PlayStation Plus Extra

  • 1-Month Subscription: SGD 15.90 | RM 55 | THB 410 | IDR 189,000
  • 3-Month Subscription: SGD 44.90 | RM 155 | THB 1,170 | IDR 536,000
  • 12-Month Subscription: SGD 142.90 | RM 490 | THB 3,720 | IDR 1,710,000

PlayStation Plus Deluxe

  • 1-Month Subscription: SGD 18.90 | RM 65 | THB 480 | IDR 221,000
  • 3-Month Subscription: SGD 53.90 | RM 185 | THB 1,380 | IDR 632,000
  • 12-Month Subscription: SGD 169.90 | RM 575 | THB 4,350 | IDR 1,990,000

These changes significantly increase the cost of enjoying PlayStation’s full suite of services in the region. While Sony continues to expand its offerings, the price hike may force gamers in Southeast Asia to reconsider their subscription plans, especially in an economy where every cent counts. Perhaps it would be wise to up your subscription terms with the current pricing.
