Predicting player behaviour and the trends that follow them has never been an exact science. Time and again, players have proven their willingness to revive long-forgotten titles or bring obscure games into the spotlight. This phenomenon is once again on full display with EA and DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront II, a title that has seen a surprising resurgence in popularity, particularly on Steam.
The recent revival of the shooter has captured the attention of the gaming community. Initially, its player spike in May 2025 was seen by many as a temporary surge, likely triggered by a combination of factors: the annual Star Wars Day celebrations, a major discount on the game, and the critical success of Andor Season 2. However, what was once thought to be a brief moment of nostalgia-fueled activity has instead developed into a sustained upward trend.
According to data from SteamDB, Star Wars Battlefront II reached a new all-time peak for concurrent players this past weekend, with a remarkable 35,892 users online at once. This figure is roughly 1.5 times higher than its peak during May 2025 and nearly three times greater than the game’s historical high from several years ago. Far from fading into obscurity, the game appears to be gaining fresh momentum.
Star Wars Battlefront II is a Hit

Interestingly, the resurgence has also drawn in content creators and influencers who had previously shown little interest in the game. Their participation is likely to continue fueling the game’s visibility and attracting new players. Unfortunately, the renewed popularity has also brought a familiar downside: an uptick in cheaters exploiting the renewed attention and multiplayer activity, slightly marring the experience for some.
Despite this momentum, EA and DICE, currently focused on developing Battlefield 6, have not commented on the possibility of a Battlefront III. Their current exploration of the Star Wars franchise appears to be shifting away from large-scale multiplayer shooters and toward other genres, as evidenced by titles like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the upcoming Star Wars: Zero Company.
For now, Star Wars Battlefront II remains a rare case of a once-troubled game reclaiming its place in the spotlight years after its original launch.
