Stray Dog: nobody cares Turns a Loyal Hound Into a Soulslike Hero

Anyone who has fought Great Grey Wolf Sif in Dark Souls will probably understand the appeal of Stray Dog: nobody cares immediately. The newly announced action game from Parry Frames Studio, previously behind Crimson Oath, puts players in control of an unnamed hound wielding a battered sword between its jaws.

Unsurprisingly, comparisons to FromSoftware’s famous wolf appeared almost immediately, with players already dubbing the game Bark Souls.

The similarities are obvious, but Stray Dog: nobody cares has its own story to tell. Set in the war-torn border region of Greythorn, the hound sets out to rescue the disgraced knight who raised it after he is captured by the invading legion.

Stray Dog: nobody cares Puts Precision Parries at the Centre

Despite the unusual protagonist, the combat looks much more familiar for Soulslike fans. Parry Frames Studio lists precise parries, backstabs and deathblows among the core mechanics, alongside special combat arts that give the hound additional ways to tear through enemies.

That makes the combat feel closer in spirit to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice than a slower traditional Dark Souls encounter, with timing and defensive reactions appearing just as important as aggression. Stealth kills are also part of the toolkit, giving players an opportunity to thin out groups before committing to direct combat.

Exploration Unlocks More Skills and Combat Options

The adventure will take place across Soulslike-style levels filled with treasures and optional exploration. Defeating enemies rewards experience points and gold, which can then be used to unlock additional skills and expand the hound’s combat abilities. Steam also promises brutal boss fights and custom-built levels rather than a fully open-world structure.

The emotional hook is equally straightforward. The dog does not care about kingdoms, political schemes or the larger war consuming Greythorn. Its entire motivation is rescuing the knight who gave it a home.

That simple loyalty gives the premise a surprisingly strong emotional foundation beneath the obvious novelty of watching a dog perform sword parries.

Stray Dog: nobody cares Is Coming to PC

For anyone who ever wished Sif had been the hero rather than the boss, Parry Frames Studio may have stumbled onto an extremely specific fantasy. Whether the finished game can match its immediately memorable premise remains to be seen, but a sword-wielding dog parrying knights is already a difficult pitch to ignore.

Stray Dog: nobody cares is currently confirmed for PC via Steam, with no release window announced yet.
