Having already conquered the film industry, Marvel is also making a concerted effort to bring its brand to the world of video games in significant ways. Genres like fighting games, action adventures, hero shooters, and more have already tasted the magic, and virtual reality is next. Twisted Pixel and Oculus Studios, along with Marvel Games, are inviting you to step into the madness with Marvel’s Deadpool VR.
Featuring an original story, the Merc with a Mouth is whisked off into Mojoworld with one thing on his mind: to make as much money as possible. After signing a dubious agreement without reading any of the fine print, this sets up Deadpool on a nonstop killing spree across all sorts of iconic Marvel locations. Along the way, you will do battle with characters that many know and love, and also some that are not.
Naturally, players can expect the wisecracks and crazy antics from the hero, and Twisted Pixel has made sure to utilise his abilities in combat and movement as well. Marvel’s Deadpool VR will blend both parkour and combat into a unique gameplay formula. This means you can stab and shoot, but also lean into the madness of Deadpool.
As the team puts it, you can “punch someone while holding a grenade” or “take your recently exploded-off arm and throw it at the bad guys”. Among the various enemies that you can face, which include “soldiers, demonic dogs, weird humanoid lizards, creepy worm-things” and more, they can all be dismembered in creative ways.
Deadpool is being brought to life by Neil Patrick Harris, and his charm and delivery are already on point from what we have seen and heard from the trailer. Whether you can stomach the kind of conversations for a prolonged period of time is still up in the air, but for fans of the character, it appears to be a great choice.
Marvel’s Deadpool VR is set to be launched sometime this year, with more information to come in the next few months.
