Ubisoft Singapore Layoffs Will Affect 70 Positions

Ubisoft is cutting 70 positions at Ubisoft Singapore as part of its continuing global restructuring, while also proposing the closure of Finnish Trials developer RedLynx.

Ubisoft confirmed the Singapore reductions to multiple outlets, saying they are intended to “align the studio with upcoming production needs”. The company stressed that the local team “remains an important part” of its global production organisation.

The timing is notable for Ubisoft Singapore, which only months ago led development on Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced alongside 14 other Ubisoft studios. The game subsequently sold-in 3.5 million copies within its first 14 days, exceeding Ubisoft’s full-year expectations for the title. That commercial performance does not appear to have insulated the studio from Ubisoft’s broader cost-cutting programme.

Black Flag Resynced Was a Major Win for Ubisoft Singapore

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced launched on July 9 and quickly became one of Ubisoft’s strongest releases of the year, passing three million sales in its first week before reaching 3.5 million sold-in shortly afterwards.

The remake was particularly significant for the local studio. Ubisoft Singapore has contributed to numerous Assassin’s Creed games and led development of Skull and Bones, but Black Flag Resynced placed it at the head of one of Ubisoft’s flagship projects.

We previously spoke with the Singapore team about how it approached rebuilding Edward Kenway’s adventure, including the challenges of modernising the game without losing what made the original work.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced exceeded Ubisoft's annual sales target within two weeks after selling 3.5 million copies.

RedLynx Could Close as Ubisoft Pushes Further Cost Cuts

The Singapore layoffs come alongside Ubisoft’s proposal to close RedLynx, the Helsinki studio best known for the Trials series. VGC reports that around 52 positions could be affected. The proposed closure remains subject to Finland’s mandatory change-negotiation process, meaning it should not yet be treated as a completed studio shutdown.

According to VGC, RedLynx currently has no new project assigned, while Ubisoft concluded that reducing the studio’s size alone would not make it sustainable. Both moves sit within a much larger overhaul. Ubisoft reported a €1.5 billion net loss for FY2025–26, while its fixed cost base had already fallen by nearly €325 million compared with FY2022–23. The publisher is targeting a further reduction to around €1.25 billion by March 2028, supported in part by targeted restructuring.

Ubisoft has already reorganised much of its development network around its new Creative Houses structure, including turning Massive Entertainment into the global home for several major franchises. For Ubisoft Singapore, the immediate reality is that even after leading a remake that beat Ubisoft’s annual commercial expectations within two weeks, 70 positions are now being removed as the publisher continues reshaping its global workforce.
