Watch Dogs: Legion Director’s Cut Reportedly Targets Early 2027

Ubisoft may not be finished with Watch Dogs: Legion after all, with a new report claiming it’s planning a Director’s Cut for the first half of 2027. Released in 2020, Watch Dogs: Legion took the franchise in a very different direction by allowing players to recruit and control almost anyone roaming its near-future London.

The ambitious “play as anyone” concept became the defining feature of the game, but the series subsequently went quiet after its post-launch content wrapped up. An upgraded version could now be Ubisoft’s first attempt to bring Watch Dogs back into the spotlight.

Watch Dogs: Legion Director’s Cut Could Arrive in 2027

According to Insider Gaming, Ubisoft is currently targeting the first half of 2027 for the reported Director’s Cut. Tom Henderson had previously reported that Ubisoft was developing a Director’s Cut of Legion, but the latest information provides the first potential release window.

What that version actually contains remains unknown. Ubisoft has not formally announced Watch Dogs: Legion Director’s Cut, so there are currently no confirmed details on graphical upgrades, gameplay changes, additional content, or potential platform support.

For that reason, treat both the project and its reported 2027 window as unofficial until Ubisoft says otherwise.

Ubisoft Has Not Completely Moved On From Watch Dogs

The report arrives shortly after Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot was asked about Watch Dogs during the company’s October 1 annual meeting. Guillemot said the franchise is not currently expected to be placed under one of Ubisoft’s new Creative Houses, while also making an intriguing reference to it potentially being “remade”. Exactly what he meant by that remains unclear.

That comment does not confirm the reported Legion Director’s Cut, nor does it necessarily mean a remake of the original Watch Dogs is happening. It does, however, suggest Ubisoft has not completely closed the door on the IP.

For now, Watch Dogs: Legion Director’s Cut remains another reported Ubisoft project rather than an announced release. If the first-half 2027 window holds, though, we may not have to wait too long to discover what Ubisoft believes is worth changing for a second trip through London.
