James Gunn Unveils First Look at David Corenswet As Superman

Although the titanic fight between Marvel and DC on the big screen was one that many fans hoped would lead to a golden age for entertainment, the consensus is that the latter was leagues ahead of the competition. However, there were certain standouts on the DC side, particularly with Henry Cavill as Superman, who many saw as the real-life embodiment of the Son of Krypton.

Even though Cavill has hung up his cape as the hero, there is a new kid on the block leading the DC Universe under the watchful eyes of James Gunn and Peter Safran. David Corenswet (The Politician, Hollywood) is taking on the mantle, and we have gotten our first look at the new Superman courtesy of Gunn, who is directing the film of the same name.

Sharing on social media, the director simply states for fans to “Get ready” along with the July 11 date in 2025. Judging from the state of Corenswet’s Superman suit, he is more than ready to get his fists dirty, as an ominous ray of energy is seen in the background. Alongside the lead, Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards) will play Lois Lane, Superman’s love interest, while Nicholas Hoult (Renfield) stands on the opposite end as Lex Luthor.

“So as many of you know, DC has been disconnected in film and television for a long time,” Gunn said previously in a video posted on Twitter/X. “And it’s one of our jobs, mine and Peter’s, to come in and make sure the DCU is connected in film, television, gaming, and animation, that the characters are consistent, played by the same actors, and it works within one story.”

The Superman film will mark the start of the new DC Universe, which already has 10 other projects in the pipeline. This will include reboots for other notable DC heroes like Batman and Supergirl, and will include television shows as well.
