Platinum Games Seemingly Wipes Superhero Title Project G.G. From Existence

Platinujm Games Might Cancel Project G.g.

The departure of Hideki Kamiya from Platinum Games has left a big question mark — not just about the reasoning behind the move but also about the future of franchises that he was at the helm of. While the beloved developer will be involved with the Okami sequel, other existing projects like Bayonetta have unclear futures. and we can add the superhero game, Project G.G. to the list.

For those unfamiliar with this title, Project G.G. has been described by Kamiya as the final chapter of his superhero game trilogy. The initial teaser showcased a battle against a giant enemy, reminiscent of franchises like Ultraman.

With Kamiya now working on the Okami sequel with Capcom, Platinum Games no longer seems interested in continuing the project. This is reflected in the company’s website, where it used to list the released and upcoming games, but now, there are only nine titles left, with Project G.G. now redirecting visitors to the main page instead.

Considering that Kenta Koyama, the lead designer of Project G.G., has also left the company along with Kamiya, perhaps there is no more confidence for the remaining team to continue on this project.

As mentioned, Project G.G. is not the only game removed from Platinum Games’ project list. Alongside Project G.G., 13 other games were removed, including Babylon’s Fall and Sol Cresta. This has not gone down too well with employees, with former Platinum Games’ producer, Jean Pierre Kellams, criticising that the move is an attempt to erase history.

“Saw this on ResetEra, and I have no idea why they did it, but PlatinumGames erasing its history on its website is extremely regrettable,” said the former producer. “I wonder if they pulled the carpet tiles out of the lobby, too. As someone proud of working on those games, I feel deeply insulted by this.”

Platinum Games has not provided any explanation about this move, or drop any updates about Project G.G. or even its cancellation. However, the studio has other things in the pipeline, including the exciting Ninja Gaiden 4 that was recently revealed. Hopefully, there is a renewed focus for the team for the next entry in a storied franchise, and we will get proper word on what’s happening with the superhero project.
