Summer Game Fest: Capcom Launching Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess This July

Summer Game Fest is officially here, and that means plenty of gaming news for players all around the world to look forward to and hopefully be pleasantly surprised by. If you have been keeping an eye on Capcom and the upcoming Japanese-inspired single-player Kagura Action Strategy game, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, then there is some excellent news.

The Japanese gaming giant has revealed that Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess will be released on July 19, with the original platforms of PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC joined by both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Pre-orders have also started.

So what does it mean to be a Kagura Action Strategy title? It combines the exhilarating action of “Sword-dance” with the enjoyment of strategy through “Command”. Set in a mountainside overtaken by defilement, the game follows a day and night cycle where during the day, players control the character, Soh, to explore the village to purge the defilement from the villagers and position them in preparation for the battle at night.

During the night, the player will protect the Maiden by giving commands to the villagers and using dance-like sword techniques to protect the Maiden from the demons known as the Seethe. Immerse yourself in a unique worldview of “和” (“wa”) (harmony in Japanese) and embrace the freedom offered by your choices in both action and strategy gameplay.

The villagers will play an important role in Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, fulfilling different roles in their positions and, when given commands by the player, to help out in the fight against the Seethe. Archers can take advantage of high ground, for example, while others, like the Ascetic, will help erect barriers to slow down the horde. Should Soh get downed, the game isn’t over; he will still be able to command the villagers in this Spirit State, but if the Maiden falls, then it’s all over.

Naturally, the enemies that are standing in your way will come in all shapes and sizes, taking inspiration from the folklore of old and brought to life by the outstanding art style of the game.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess will also be available on Xbox Game Pass, with support for Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing cross-play and save data transfer between Xbox and PC. Additionally, those who purchase the PlayStation 4 version can upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.

Pre-ordering will net players Soh’s equipment, the Mazo Talismans, Walking Basket and Astral Projection, as well as a digital Mini Artbook which includes concept art from the game.
