NetEase’s ANANTA Returns with Gameplay Trailer Ahead of TGS 2025
The crowded gacha market is about to gain another major contender. NetEase Games and developer Naked Rain have released a new seven-minute trailer for their ambitious project, ANANTA, formerly known as Project Mugen. With Tokyo Game Show 2025 just days away, the reappearance of the title has reignited fan discussion — and its gameplay looks like a blend of some of the industry’s most recognisable mechanics.
A Mix of Familiar Inspirations
The trailer highlights an urban fantasy setting where multiple mechanics converge. Seamless GTA V-style character switching allows players to swap between protagonists mid-action, with background activities continuing dynamically. Watch Dogs-inspired hacking tools, including spider drones, add another layer of urban control.
Traversal echoes Marvel’s Spider-Man, with swinging mechanics and aerial battles through skyscrapers, while melee combat channels the Batman: Arkham series with flowing combos and cinematic takedowns.
This fusion makes ANANTA feel less like a single-genre title and more like a curated remix of open-world classics — but one positioned firmly in the gacha space.
A Different Approach to Gacha Action
Unlike most gacha RPGs, which emphasise quick rotations between characters and synergy-based combos, ANANTA’s combat appears slower, heavier, and more cinematic. The footage shows extended single-character sequences, raising questions about how collectible mechanics will integrate beyond character acquisition and cosmetics.
This design choice could position the game as a more accessible entry for players seeking spectacle without the frenetic pacing of typical gacha combat.
Platforms and Release Plans
With its bold mashup of influences and AAA polish, ANANTA could emerge as one of the most ambitious experiments in the growing wave of urban fantasy gacha titles.
ANANTA is in development for PlayStation 5, PC, Android, and iOS. While no release date has been set, NetEase has confirmed that more details will be revealed during Tokyo Game Show 2025 later this week.
