ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs Opens Its Shop This Summer

tinyBuild and developer Mandragora have confirmed that ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs will launch on Steam this summer, with a new demo now available as part of Steam Next Fest.

The cosy electronics repair simulator sends players back to mid-2000s Tokyo, where they will run a small repair shop built around old gadgets, customer stories and the strangely satisfying process of taking broken tech apart before carefully putting it back together.

Since its announcement in late 2025, ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs has already picked up strong early interest. According to tinyBuild, more than 300,000 players have joined the playtest so far, while the game has also passed 400,000 wishlists on Steam.

Steam Next Fest Demo Adds New Gadgets And Customisation

The new Steam Next Fest demo offers an expanded look at the pre-release version of the game, giving players more room to test its repair systems ahead of launch.

One of the new additions is the Patento BS, a handheld gadget inspired by one of gaming’s most recognisable portable consoles. The demo also adds an airbrush drawing tool, letting players visually customise devices once they have been repaired.

That customisation element appears to be a growing part of the game’s appeal. The latest trailer highlights some community-made creations, showing how players are already turning restored gadgets into more personal pieces of Y2K hardware.

Repair Work Meets Branching Customer Stories

At its core, ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs is about restoring nostalgic 2000s devices. Players will work on retro video game consoles, handhelds, cellphones, cameras, home appliances and officially licensed Atari systems.

The repair process involves taking devices apart, cleaning them, replacing faulty components, and reassembling them using various tools. Players will also use a Y2K-era web browser to hunt for spare parts, adding another layer of shop management to the repair loop. There is a narrative side to the work as well. Customers arrive with their own stories, and the choices players make can influence branching storylines and different endings.

Some of those stories sound more personal than a simple repair job. tinyBuild mentions examples such as uncovering secrets on a former gangster’s phone or learning about a lovestruck student’s crush, giving each device a reason to matter beyond its broken parts.

ReStory Leans Into Y2K Nostalgia

ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs is clearly designed around the tactile nostalgia of older technology. Rather than focusing only on business growth, the game leans into the feeling of handling gadgets from a very specific period, when phones, handheld consoles and home electronics had more distinct shapes, colours and personalities.

That gives Mandragora’s repair sim a sharper hook than a standard shop management game. It is not just about fixing devices quickly or efficiently, but about reconnecting with an era of tech that many players either grew up with or now see as retro.
