Rainbow Six Tactics Brings the Siege Mindset to Turn-Based Combat

Ubisoft is taking Rainbow Six somewhere new with Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics, a single-player turn-based tactical game revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live. Developed by Ubisoft Paris, the spin-off runs alongside the existing Rainbow Six Siege timeline as a new global threat forces Team Rainbow to operate on a wider scale.

For the first time in the franchise, players directly assume the role of Six, commanding squads from Rainbow’s headquarters before sending up to four Operators into the field. The reveal was one of many announcements from the night, all of which can be found in our Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 roundup.

Rainbow Six Tactics Features 15 Familiar Operators

Rainbow Six Tactics will feature 15 Operators drawn from Rainbow Six Siege, each bringing their familiar abilities and specialised gadgets into the new turn-based format. They will also receive individual skill trees, giving players room to develop Operators and experiment with different four-person squad combinations depending on the mission ahead.

More than 45 locations are planned across the campaign, with objectives including hostage rescue, bomb disposal and target elimination. Preparation begins back at headquarters, where players analyse intelligence, select Operators, and decide how to approach an assignment. Completing missions then feeds back into upgrading the base, training the team and strengthening Rainbow for future operations.

Destruction Still Matters in Turn-Based Battles

Moving into turn-based combat does not mean abandoning one of Rainbow Six Siege’s defining mechanics. Destructible environments remain a major tactical tool, allowing players to break through walls, remove enemy cover or create entirely new lines of sight as situations change.

Ubisoft is also introducing a Breach system that temporarily changes the normal rhythm of combat. Players can coordinate multiple actions before executing them simultaneously, sending the entire squad into a room in a single synchronised assault.

It is an obvious nod to Rainbow Six’s long-standing emphasis on planning an entry before everything inevitably goes wrong.

Rainbow Six Tactics Has No Release Date Yet

Rainbow Six Tactics Brings the Siege Mindset to Turn-Based Combat

Rainbow Six Tactics is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Ubisoft Connect, Steam and the Epic Games Store. It will also be available through Ubisoft+, GeForce Now and Blacknut.

Wishlisting is already open, although Ubisoft has not announced a release window.

The turn-based format may be a significant departure from Siege, but the reliance on reconnaissance, Operators, environmental destruction and carefully planned breaches means Rainbow Six Tactics is still leaning heavily on the tactical identity of the wider series.
