Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 Brings More Than 70 Games to the Stage

Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 kicked off this year’s show in Cologne with more than two hours of trailers, new announcements, release dates and fresh gameplay, alongside a packed pre-show that added another wave of games before Geoff Keighley even took the main stage.

There was no shortage of familiar faces. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt made a surprisingly large return, Square Enix showed more of the conclusion to its Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, while Gears of War: E-Day, Metro 2039, Silent Hill: Townfall and CONTROL Resonant were among the other major titles receiving new looks.

Several entirely new projects also debuted, including Rainbow Six Tactics, HoYoverse’s Nodusfall, and LEGO Skylines.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered

One of the night’s biggest surprises came right at the end. CD Projekt Red announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, a substantial free upgrade arriving September 29 for existing owners. The new version updates visuals and performance while revisiting combat, traversal, finishers, character progression and other systems from Geralt’s decade-old adventure.

The remaster also gives CD Projekt Red another opportunity to modernise The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt before Ciri takes over the mainline series in The Witcher 4.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past

Geralt’s return did not end with a remaster. CD Projekt Red finally unveiled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, a new story expansion coming in 2027 and developed in collaboration with Fool’s Theory.

The adventure takes Geralt to the new realm of Letten, with fresh quests, monsters and characters alongside a new chain weapon. More than 11 years after the original game arrived, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is somehow preparing to grow again.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Square Enix saved one of the night’s largest showcases for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final chapter of its Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy.

The new trailer featured the Highwind, submarine sequences and several of the enormous Weapons, including Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon and Ultima Weapon. Cloud’s entire party is now assembled for the conclusion, with Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind joining the fight as Square Enix targets a spring 2027 launch.

Gears of War: E-Day

The Coalition delivered a new story trailer for Gears of War: E-Day, returning to the beginning of humanity’s war against the Locust.

The prequel follows younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago during Emergence Day, long before they became the hardened soldiers players know from the original trilogy. The latest footage placed considerably more emphasis on the horror and devastation of the Locust’s arrival ahead of the October 6 launch.

Rainbow Six Tactics

One of Ubisoft’s biggest surprises was Rainbow Six Tactics, a new single-player turn-based strategy game built around Operators and concepts familiar from Rainbow Six Siege.

Four Operator squads tackle missions built around positioning, gadgets and destructible environments, taking familiar Rainbow Six mechanics into territory closer to XCOM. Ubisoft Paris is developing the spin-off for a 2027 release.

Metro 2039

4A Games returned with another substantial look at Metro 2039, showing protagonist Stranger fighting his way through both the underground Metro and the devastated surface world.

The new gameplay retained the series’ familiar emphasis on survival, improvised equipment and oppressive atmosphere, while 4A continues to describe the project as a particularly personal chapter for the studio. Metro 2039 is scheduled for February 2027.

Silent Hill: Townfall

Silent Hill: Townfall received another unsettling story trailer ahead of its September 24 release.

The footage revealed more of the characters caught up in its psychological horror, with Jovan Adepo, Terry O’Quinn and Kezia Burrows among the cast. The project continues to promise a different take on Silent Hill, with a first-person perspective and a setting removed from the familiar American town.

Nodusfall

HoYoverse delivered one of Gamescom Opening Night Live’s most unexpected reveals with Nodusfall.

Rather than another colourful anime RPG in the mould of Genshin Impact or Honkai: Star Rail, Nodus Fall is a considerably darker cooperative fantasy action game. Players take on the role of Weavers and battle enormous mythical creatures using different weapons and elemental powers. No release date has been announced.

Exodus

Archetype Entertainment used Gamescom to introduce another member of Exodus‘ increasingly unusual cast.

Salt is an Awakened octopus mercenary operating through a mechanical body, joining protagonist Jun Aslan on the game’s galaxy-spanning adventure. More importantly, Exodus finally received a release date and will launch on April 7, 2027.

CONTROL Resonant

Dylan Faden returned with another demonstration of Control Resonant‘s reality-bending action.

The new Altered State trailer showed more of Remedy’s warped Manhattan alongside the sequel’s stronger emphasis on close-range combat. Unlike Jesse’s gun-focused adventure, Dylan will rely heavily on supernatural melee abilities as he searches for his missing sister.

Control Resonant launches digitally on September 24.

Tides of Annihilation

Tides of Annihilation continued to establish its unusual combination of Arthurian fantasy and modern London with a new story trailer.

Gwendolyn remains at the centre of the adventure, wielding supernatural abilities while summoning spectral Knights to assist during its fast-paced combat. The latest footage also puts more emphasis on the characters and mythology behind her search for the Holy Grail. No release date has been announced.

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons

Invoke Studios gave Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons one of its biggest gameplay demonstrations yet.

The single-player action-adventure follows Katri, whose pact with Tasha grants access to forbidden magical powers. Sword combat, spells, traversal and environmental abilities all featured heavily, giving a much clearer indication of how the studio intends to transform Dungeons & Dragons into a third-person action experience when it arrives in 2027.

Ananta

Ananta showed off even more of its enormous urban playground, moving between open-world exploration, vehicles, combat, and an impressive number of side activities.

The free-to-play RPG continues to embrace an almost anything-goes approach to its cities, with players able to switch between characters and explore locations ranging from Nova City to Chongxiao. Ananta launches on January 15, 2027.

Mega Man: Dual Override

Capcom finally showed proper gameplay from Mega Man: Dual Override, revealing how the Blue Bomber’s next adventure will look in motion.

The game retains the familiar side-scrolling action that has defined the series while introducing new mechanics and characters, including Twinkle Girl. Mega Man: Dual Override is scheduled for 2027.

Pragmata

Pragmata also got a small piece of the Mega Man celebration. Capcom announced themed crossover content inspired by the Blue Bomber, adding another cosmetic connection to the publisher’s wider catalogue. It was a relatively brief appearance compared to some of the night’s trailers, but enough to earn Pragmata another place on the broadcast.

The Blood of Dawnwalker

With launch approaching, Rebel Wolves brought The Blood of Dawnwalker back to the Gamescom stage for another look at Coen’s journey.

The trailer showcased the dark fantasy world of Vale Sangora and the dual life at the heart of the game, with Coen remaining human by day and transforming into a vampire at night. The Blood of Dawnwalker launches on September 3.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros returned with more large-scale strategy gameplay.

The PC real-time strategy game lets players command major factions from George R.R. Martin’s world, with the freedom to create outcomes that differ dramatically from the television series. Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen were among the familiar faces appearing in the latest footage ahead of its early 2027 release.

Turok: Origins

Turok: Origins received a new story trailer showing more of the threat facing its trio of warriors.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy

With release only days away, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy delivered its final launch trailer.

Sophia’s journey to Minotaur Island remains the focus, with the prequel exploring her younger years and the deeper origins of the Macula. The game launches on August 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

DUST: Origins

Airship Syndicate unveiled DUST: Origins, a new project that blends isometric action with an ominous science-fiction setting.

1001: Threads of Mizan

1001: Threads of Mizan brought Middle Eastern mythology and enormous monsters into the spotlight.

The action-adventure features magical traversal, including flying carpets, alongside cooperative battles against imposing enemies. Its distinctive cultural inspiration immediately helped it stand apart from many other fantasy games appearing that night.

The anime-styled action RPG combines open environments, flashy third-person combat and a sizeable cast, with the latest trailer revealing additional systems and multiplayer elements. A release date remains unconfirmed.

Sea of Remnants

Sea of Remnants gave players another look at its strange oceanic world.

Players take command of a ship, recruit companions and explore islands while becoming involved in turn-based battles and wider adventures across the sea. The visual style remains one of its biggest hooks, combining pirates and fantasy with an unusually colourful roster of characters.

Crimson Desert Enhanced

Pearl Abyss announced another substantial free update for Crimson Desert under the Enhanced banner.

The update expands the action RPG with additional story material and improvements while continuing to refine its already enormous open world. Existing players will be able to access the Enhanced content without paying for another expansion.

Monster Hunter Outlanders

Monster Hunter Outlanders brought Capcom and TiMi Studio Group’s mobile interpretation of the series back to Gamescom Opening Night Live.

The wider PUBG universe is heading in a very different direction with PUBG: DED.NET.

Rather than another traditional battle royale, the new project combines multiplayer shooting with roguelite elements in a fictional 1996 Pacific Northwest setting. Player testing is also part of Krafton’s plans as development continues.

Hitman World of Assassination

Agent 47 has another celebrity target to deal with.

Afterworld

Paradox Interactive revealed Afterworld, a new grand strategy game built around rebuilding civilisation following a devastating apocalypse.

Instead of managing an established empire, players begin among the remnants of North America and gradually restore settlements, infrastructure and political power. The setting offers Paradox a very different foundation for its familiar large-scale strategy systems.

Petit Planet

HoYoverse’s much gentler Petit Planet also appeared during the show.

The cosy life simulation game lets players cultivate their own small planet, meet characters and gradually build a colourful community. It remains a dramatic contrast to Nodus Fall, demonstrating two very different directions for HoYoverse within the same broadcast.

Mewgenics

Mewgenics made one of the evening’s more unusual appearances during Gamescom Opening Night Live with a live musical performance of “Guillotina”.

The cat breeding RPG is also expanding beyond PC, with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 versions arriving on September 8.

Aniimo

Gamescom Opening Night Live packed more than 70 games into its main broadcast and pre-show, ranging from major RPGs and long-awaited sequels to strategy revivals, horror projects, simulations and completely new IP.

The biggest announcements understandably belonged to familiar names. Geralt’s unexpected double return, the first substantial look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation and the reveals of Rainbow Six Tactics and Nodus Fall gave the show several strong headline moments.

Gamescom itself runs from August 26 to August 30 in Cologne, meaning many of these games will receive deeper gameplay demonstrations, developer interviews and hands-on impressions over the next few days. Opening Night Live may have been the starting gun, but there is still plenty more to come from Germany.
