ANANTA Release Date Set for January 15, 2027

After years of trailers, comparisons and questions about exactly when players could get their hands on it, Naked Rain and NetEase Games have finally set a global release date for ANANTA. The free-to-play urban open-world RPG will launch worldwide on January 15, 2027 for PlayStation 5, PC, Android and iOS.

The announcement came during Gamescom Opening Night Live, where ANANTA was among the many major games receiving new trailers and release updates. You can catch up on everything announced and showcased during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 in our full roundup.

For ANANTA, however, there was considerably more to see than a date appearing at the end of the trailer.

ANANTA Takes Players Between Nova City and Lingyun City

The three-minute launch date trailer expands the scale of ANANTA by putting both of its main locations in the spotlight. Its story unfolds between the already familiar Nova City and Lingyun City, located within the Chongxiao region.

The latter offers a noticeably greener change of scenery from Nova City’s dense urban sprawl, giving players another major location to explore as they assemble a squad and uncover the mysteries connecting both cities. There is plenty of everyday chaos mixed in as well. Characters can be seen travelling by motorbike, skateboard, and flying vehicles, while the footage jumps between combat, exploration, and increasingly ridiculous situations.

The trailer is not shy about internet humour either, throwing in recognisable meme references and giving the whole showcase a much sillier energy than the apocalyptic stakes might suggest.

Will Not Use a Traditional Character Gacha

One of the more interesting aspects of ANANTA remains how Naked Rain intends to handle its free-to-play structure. Producer Ash Qi previously confirmed that the game will not use a gacha system to obtain playable characters.

Instead, its design is built around players experiencing the different lives and roles of characters throughout the city, with new characters obtained through gameplay rather than through randomised pulls. Paid character skins were identified as one of the planned monetisation methods, while features such as home renovation and vehicles were expected to use currency earned in-game.

Those plans help set the game apart from many of the anime-styled live-service RPGs it will inevitably be compared to, although the full launch economy and monetisation model still need to be detailed.

The Open World Is Getting Much Bigger

ANANTA first emerged as Project Mugen in 2023 before adopting its current name the following year, and its trailers have repeatedly attracted attention for traversal and urban sandbox mechanics reminiscent of games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man and Grand Theft Auto. The Gamescom showing gives that ambition a much firmer destination.

With two distinct cities, multiple playable characters, different lifestyles to experience and a worldwide release now only months away, January 15, 2027 will finally reveal whether ANANTA can turn its impressive collection of ideas into an open world worth getting lost in.
