Final Fantasy VII Revelation Brings Square Enix’s Remake Trilogy To Its Final Chapter
Square Enix has officially revealed Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
The announcement closes one of the biggest remaining questions around the project. For years, fans have been waiting to see how Square Enix would name the concluding chapter after Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Revealed during Summer Game Fest, Final Fantasy VII Revelation is currently scheduled to launch in Spring 2027 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Unlike the previous two entries, the finale is planned for a simultaneous multi-platform release.
The Highwind Opens Up The World Map
One of the biggest reveals from the gameplay presentation was the Highwind. Square Enix confirmed that players will be able to freely travel across the world using the iconic airship, marking a major expansion of the open world structure introduced in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The presentation showed the party flying across the map before dropping into locations by parachute, giving exploration a faster and more cinematic rhythm.
The showcase also confirmed major locations, including Wutai, Mideel and the Northern Continent. These areas carry heavy expectations for longtime fans, especially as the final chapter moves into some of the original game’s most important story beats.
Vincent And Cid Finally Join The Playable Party
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will also make Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind fully playable. Both characters appeared in Rebirth, but they were not available as standard party members. The last chapter changes that, giving each character a distinct combat identity within the remake trilogy’s hybrid battle system.
Vincent will fight at range with firearms while also drawing on his transformation abilities, giving him a different rhythm from the rest of the party. Cid, meanwhile, brings his spear into battle with a more aerial and momentum-driven style that should fit naturally alongside the series’ existing real-time action and tactical command structure.
Their inclusion also opens the door for new synergy options, particularly as Final Fantasy VII Revelation brings the full party closer to the final confrontation with Sephiroth.
FITS Adds A New Job-Inspired Layer To Combat
The gameplay presentation also introduced FITS, short for Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear. The system allows characters to equip specialised outfits that grant new movesets and abilities. Square Enix is clearly drawing from the wider Final Fantasy tradition here, with the system appearing to function as a modernised job system layered over the existing Materia and character ability framework.
That could give Final Fantasy VII Revelation a fresh progression hook without discarding what worked in Remake and Rebirth. The previous games already built strong combat depth through Materia loadouts, character-specific skills and Synergy Abilities. FITS now looks like another way to customise each party member’s behaviour in battle.

If handled well, it could become one of the finale’s most important additions, especially for players who enjoy experimenting with team compositions and specialised builds.
The Journey Ends In Spring 2027
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will continue Cloud and his allies’ fight to stop Sephiroth and Meteor, as the planet itself moves closer to disaster. Square Enix has also confirmed that players with save data from Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will receive bonus summon Materia in Revelation.
After years of speculation, Final Fantasy VII Revelation now has a name, a launch window and a much clearer identity. Between the Highwind, playable Vincent and Cid, the FITS system and a larger world to explore, Square Enix is setting up the remake trilogy’s finale as more than a final chapter, and the wait now begins.
