Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement Gameplay Takes Centre Stage at TGS 2026

505 Games and ArtPlay have brought Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement back into the spotlight at Tokyo Game Show 2026, revealing an extended gameplay trailer for the upcoming action RPG.

Shown during the Xbox Showcase at TGS, the footage offers one of the most substantial looks yet at the prequel to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, including new environments, characters, enemies and several of the gameplay systems players will encounter.

Under the direction of Bloodstained creator Koji Igarashi, The Scarlet Engagement heads back to 16th-century England and explores an earlier chapter in the series’ history.

Leonard and Alex Take On a Cursed England

Rather than bringing Miriam back into the starring role, Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement follows two new heroes, Leonard and Alex. The pair face a mysterious floating castle controlled by Elias, a sinister figure whose demonic forces have spread terror across the surrounding kingdom.

That gives ArtPlay another sprawling gothic playground to work with, combining castles, cursed landscapes and more varied environments with the 2.5D presentation established by Ritual of the Night.

The latest footage gives us a better look at both heroes in action, along with several new enemy types and some considerably larger threats deeper into the adventure.

Combat, Crafting and Exploration Remain at the Core

While The Scarlet Engagement introduces a new story and cast, ArtPlay is not abandoning the systems that helped define its predecessor.

Exploration remains central to progression, with players uncovering more of the cursed land, gaining new abilities, and finding ways to reach previously inaccessible areas. Combat once again leans heavily on fast-paced encounters, while crafting adds another layer of progression as Leonard and Alex grow stronger.

The new trailer also offers glimpses of additional mechanics layered onto those familiar foundations, though ArtPlay is still keeping some of the finer details under wraps. For players waiting to see how this next chapter separates itself from Ritual of the Night, the TGS showing provides a much clearer picture of the scale and variety ArtPlay is aiming for.

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement Arrives in 2027

There is still some waiting to do before players can explore Elias’ floating castle for themselves. A specific release date has yet to be announced, but with ArtPlay now showing considerably more gameplay, we should get a clearer idea of how its next gothic adventure is shaping up over the coming months.

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement is currently scheduled to launch sometime in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
