Final Fantasy VII Revelation Could Reach Around 200 GB

Square Enix has never been shy about the scale of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, and that ambition could come with a considerable storage requirement. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has estimated that the final game could weigh in at around 200 GB, although development is still ongoing and the exact figure has yet to be finalised.

That would help explain Square Enix’s earlier confirmation that physical editions will require an additional download, rather than containing the complete game entirely on disc.

Speaking to VGC at Tokyo Game Show 2026, Hamaguchi said the team did not want physical media limitations to force compromises on the game’s fidelity or scope. He added that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will “probably” end up around 200 GB once everything is settled.

Physical Copies Will Still Require an Additional Download

Hamaguchi also offered some insight into why accommodating a game of that size on physical media creates additional complications for developers. According to the director, a game intended to ship complete on disc effectively needs to be locked down several months before manufacturing, allowing time for performance checks, certification and production.

A digital release provides considerably more flexibility. Developers can continue addressing issues and polishing the game much closer to launch, rather than committing to an earlier physical build.

For Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Square Enix ultimately decided that maintaining the game’s intended quality mattered more than fitting everything onto the available physical media. The company has nevertheless stressed that offering a physical version remained important, even if players need to download additional data before playing.

Vincent and Sephiroth DLC Will Dig Deeper Into Their Stories

Hamaguchi also touched on the two story expansions already confirmed for Final Fantasy VII Revelation. One will focus on Vincent, while the other centres on Sephiroth, with the director comparing their approach to Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade’s Episode INTERmission.

Rather than altering the trilogy’s conclusion, the DLC is intended to explore both characters in greater depth. Hamaguchi has not revealed whether those stories take place in the past or present, leaving their exact placement in the timeline unclear for now.

Square Enix has confirmed that both expansions form part of the Story Expansion Pass, with the two DLC releases currently planned between winter 2027 and spring 2028. They will also be available separately when they arrive.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches on April 8, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
