Shadow of the Road Delay Pushes Release to March 2027
Another Angle Games and Owlcat Games have delayed Shadow of the Road from its planned November release to March 10, 2027. The tactical RPG, set in 19th-century Japan, needs additional development time to address remaining issues and give the overall experience more polish before launch.
Rather than pointing to a single technical problem, the team says the extra months will be spent refining several of the game’s core systems, with tactical combat and progression receiving particular attention.
Tactical Combat Is Getting More Refinement
Another Angle Games wants positioning, initiative and ability choices to play a meaningful role across every encounter. The goal is to ensure battles reward planning rather than letting individual mechanics dominate, while combat balance will also be adjusted throughout the additional development period.
That could prove especially important for a tactical RPG where the quality of each encounter depends heavily on how much room players are given to experiment with positioning and different party setups. The studio is also revisiting progression, with the intention of making party development more engaging and giving players greater incentive to experiment with skills rather than settling into one reliable approach.
According to the developers, those changes should encourage players to adapt their tactics as new challenges appear rather than simply carrying the same strategy through every fight.
More Shadow of the Road Updates Are Coming
The delay moves Shadow of the Road roughly four months beyond its original November window, but the developers are not planning to go quiet during that time. Another Angle Games says more trailers and further looks at the game world will be released during the extended wait.
For anyone already interested in its blend of tactical RPG systems and 19th-century Japanese setting, the delay is therefore less about changing direction and more about giving its combat systems additional time to come together.
Shadow of the Road will now launch on March 10, 2027, with further details expected ahead of release.
