Atari Reveals the Gamestation Go Handheld Console Complete with Number Pad

It’s not the first of its kind, but what Valve managed to achieve with the SteamDeck has certainly opened the eyes of many companies to the potential of the handheld gaming market. Unsurprisingly, many have entered the handheld arena, such as the ROG Ally X and the Lenovo Legion Go. Now, we finally get to see what Atari has been cooking up with the new Gamestation Go handheld console.

That’s right, one of the pioneers of the first-generation consoles is ready to re-enter the hardware market seriously with a new offering. And while it would have been safe to go the usual route with the form factor and other key features, the new console stands out for having some interesting new tweaks.

Showcased via Twitter/X post, the usual assortment of buttons, analogue stick, and D-pad are accompanied by a trackpad on the left and a number pad on the right. The two extras will definitely be something to look out, whether it be for games that will utilise them in some form or whatever the hardware maker has in mind for them. Co-developed with MyArcade, the folks behind a successful line of miniature retro arcade cabinets, it is clear Atari is keen to stand out from the crowd with the Gamestation Go.

The new reveal should come as good news for fans who were awaiting its original iteration, the Gamestation Portable, which was slated to release sometime last year but disappear without a trace. That is, until now.

With this first look at the Gamestation Go, Atari did not share further details about its latest hardware offering. No release date has been revealed just yet, but with the console being part of Atari’s plans for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) starting on January 7, we will definitely hear more in the coming days.
