Bethesda Game Studios Roadmap Sets Up Its Next RPG Era

Bethesda Game Studios has shared a major update on its future, outlining long-term plans for Starfield, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls. The studio says it is investing more deeply in its biggest worlds, bringing internal teams closer together, expanding support for player creators, and building future RPGs on a shared technology foundation.

That foundation is Creation Engine 3, which Bethesda says is now being used for both The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5. The message gives fans one of the clearest looks yet at where Bethesda is heading over the next few years. There are no new release dates, but there are several major confirmations, including remasters for Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, a new Fallout project from Obsidian Entertainment, and a renewed commitment to Starfield.

Starfield Is Still Part of Bethesda’s Future

Bethesda says Starfield has now passed 17 million players, with almost a billion hours logged to date. As the game enters its third year, the studio plans to keep expanding the Settled Systems with new stories, targeted gameplay improvements, and additional updates. New Starborn content is also planned for next year.

Creations will remain a major part of that support. Bethesda says more than 40% of Starfield players already customise their experience through Creations, and the studio plans to continue investing in creators.

That wider creator push is now stretching across multiple Bethesda games. The studio says Creations has expanded to Fallout 4, joining Skyrim and Starfield, with creators earning more than US$10 million in royalties so far.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas Remasters Are in Development

The biggest news for many players will be Bethesda’s Fallout update. The studio says Fallout 5 remains its long-range destination and is currently in pre-production. Before that happens, Bethesda says it has multiple Fallout projects in active development.

That includes remasters for Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Bethesda is not announcing dates yet, but the confirmation alone will be enough to get long-time fans talking, especially given how often players have asked for modern versions of both games.

Fallout 76 is also continuing, with nearly 70 free updates released so far. A major new expansion called Raven Rock is planned for next year and will serve as a prequel story to Fallout 3.

Obsidian Is Working on a New Fallout Project

Bethesda also confirmed that Obsidian Entertainment is working with the studio on a new Fallout project. That is a major update given Obsidian’s long-standing connection to Fallout: New Vegas, which remains one of the franchise’s most beloved entries. Bethesda did not share details on the project, so it is not clear whether this is a full RPG, a smaller spin-off, or something else entirely.

Even without those details, the confirmation is significant. Fans have spent years asking for Obsidian to return to Fallout, and it now appears that the wasteland is finally bringing both studios back together.

The Elder Scrolls VI Is Bethesda’s Primary Development Focus

While Fallout received the most announcements, Bethesda made clear that The Elder Scrolls VI is its primary development focus today. The majority of the team is now working on the next mainline Elder Scrolls entry. Bethesda says it is where it planned to be, likes how the game looks, and plays it every day.

That still does not mean a release window is near. Bethesda did not provide a date, a gameplay reveal plan, or a platform update. Still, after years of silence, the message is one of the clearest signs yet that The Elder Scrolls VI has moved into a more active stage.

The studio also confirmed that ZeniMax Online Studios will work more closely with Bethesda Game Studios on The Elder Scrolls franchise, while continuing to support The Elder Scrolls Online.

Bethesda Is Building Around Three Major Worlds

The broader message is simple: Bethesda is organising its future around Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Starfield. That includes live-game support, remasters, creator-driven content, television projects, internal collaboration, and long-term technology investment. Fallout Shelter is continuing with new Seasons, while an unscripted Fallout Shelter television project is also in development with Amazon Studios and Kilter Films.

Bethesda also says production on Fallout Season 3 is already underway, while Fallout Day will return in a bigger form for the franchise’s 30th anniversary in 2027 with a live celebration planned in Washington, D.C. For players, the update does not answer every question. There are still no dates for The Elder Scrolls VI, Fallout 5, the remasters, or Obsidian’s new project. However, it does make Bethesda’s priorities much clearer.

The next era of Bethesda Game Studios is not about one game. It is about building a long-term ecosystem around its biggest worlds and making sure players keep returning to them for years.
