Blood Message Trailer Shows NetEase Games’ First AAA Single-Player Push

NetEase Games and 24 Entertainment have revealed a new trailer for Blood Message at Summer Game Fest, offering another look at the cinematic action adventure set in ancient China. Titled Hold Till Dawn, the trailer focuses on the game’s backstory, harsh landscapes, and new combat mechanics.

Blood Message is currently in development for PC and consoles, with no release date announced yet. Built using Unreal Engine 5, it also marks NetEase Games’ first AAA single-player title, a notable step for a publisher more commonly associated with multiplayer and live service releases.

Blood Message Follows a Nameless Messenger in the Tang Dynasty

Set in 848 AD during the late Tang Dynasty, Blood Message follows a nameless messenger tasked with delivering a message that could decide the fate of his homeland. His journey takes him eastward toward Chang’an, the heart of the Tang Dynasty, across a dangerous 1,000-mile route.

The story is centred on the messenger and his son, giving the game a more personal, emotional core than a typical war story. Rather than focusing on emperors, generals, or famous historical figures, the game is set to be a tribute to ordinary people caught in extraordinary moments.

Hold Till Dawn Highlights Combat, Stealth, and Survival

The Hold Till Dawn trailer leans heavily into the game’s survival angle, with the pair facing enemy sieges, brutal terrain, and overwhelming odds. Combat appears grounded and physical, with the game blending direct encounters, stealth, and survival mechanics into its cinematic structure.

That mix gives Blood Message a clearer position within the crowded action-adventure space. Its appeal does not seem to rest solely on scale or spectacle, but on the pressure of surviving a long journey in which every fight feels costly against a historical context.

Ancient China is Its Strongest Hook

Blood Message also places a strong emphasis on cultural identity, with landscapes inspired by East and Central Asia, including Dunhuang. The setting gives the game a distinct historical texture, especially as it draws from the final years of the Tang Dynasty.

Blood Message Trailer Shows NetEase Games’ First AAA Single Player Push

For NetEase Games, the project could become an important showcase of its ambitions in the premium single-player market. With 24 Entertainment already known for Naraka: Bladepoint, Blood Message now gives the studio a different kind of spotlight, one focused on story, atmosphere, and emotional stakes rather than competitive play.
