Dragon’s Dogma 2 Performance Update Targets a Major Pain Point
Capcom has confirmed that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will receive a major performance update before the launch of Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. The news comes after Capcom announced the long-awaited expansion, which launches on October 9, where Dark Arisen will introduce the snowy northern region of Norgan, new relics, 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges, and additional character creator options.
However, for many players, the most important part of the announcement may be the roadmap for the base game update. Dragon’s Dogma 2 has faced criticism since launch for inconsistent performance, particularly on PC, and Capcom is now promising improvements before players head into the new expansion.
August Update Brings Frame Rate and Performance Improvements
Capcom is planning two major title updates in the lead-up to Dark Arisen. The first update launched on June 10 and focuses mainly on quality-of-life improvements. The second update, planned for the end of August, will bring frame rate and performance improvements across all current platforms.
That August patch is the one many players will be watching most closely. Dragon’s Dogma 2 remains one of Capcom’s most ambitious RE Engine games, but its open-world structure and dense NPC systems have made performance a regular talking point since release.
The wider conversation around Capcom’s larger RE Engine projects has only made that more visible. While the engine continues to produce excellent results in more controlled environments, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has shown how demanding open-world design can be when paired with complex simulation systems.

Update 3.1 Makes Fast Travel Easier
The June 10 update is still significant, especially for players frustrated by the base game’s travel restrictions. Capcom has added the Eternal Ferrystone, a reusable fast travel item that makes moving across the world much easier. Additional Portcrystals have also been added to locations including Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town, and Volcanic Island Camp.
Other changes include reduced inn fees, cheaper Ferrystones, improved quest rewards, map adjustments, new photo mode options, and more control over Pawn behaviour. Players can also disable unsolicited Pawn recruitment requests and turn off post-battle high fives.
Save Slots and Dragonsplague Changes Are Coming
The August update will go beyond performance. Capcom is expanding the save system from one slot to three, with each slot holding autosave, interim save, and last inn rest data. Loading from the last inn rest will also no longer delete autosave or interim save data.
Dragonsplague is also being adjusted. The update will add Dragonsbaulk Draught, a new item that can cure Dragonsplague, while Pawns affected by the condition will gain additional combat behaviour and adjusted loss gauge effects. Combat is receiving wider changes as well. The August update will expand weapon skill slots from four to six, reduce flinching, adjust vocations, improve Pawn behaviour, and add more user interface options.
Dark Arisen Arrives After the Fixes
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen will launch on October 9, after both major base game updates have arrived.
That timing matters. The expansion is clearly aimed at giving players a major reason to return, but Capcom also seems aware that the base game needs to feel better before that happens. For returning Arisen, the next few months will be important. If the August performance patch delivers, Dark Arisen could arrive with Dragon’s Dogma 2 in a much stronger position than it was at launch.
