Enhanced Final Fantasy Tactics — The Ivalice Chronicles Remaster Arrives This September

The Final Fantasy Tactics remaster is set to launch in late September 2025.

It’s hard to deny the unique charm of classic Final Fantasy titles from the Squaresoft era—an era often regarded as the golden age of the franchise. Among them, Final Fantasy Tactics stood out with its distinctive approach, offering a masterful blend of political intrigue and tactical RPG gameplay. A new generation will soon be able to enjoy what many have already experienced before with Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles.

Unveiled at the latest State of Play showcase, Square Enix officially unveiled the full remaster of the 1997 tactical RPG classic. One of the most intriguing aspects of this release is the inclusion of two distinct play modes: Classic and Enhanced. This thoughtful approach allows both longtime fans and newcomers to enjoy the game in a format that suits their preferences.

The Enhanced version is the centrepiece of the remaster, featuring completely overhauled visuals with crisper, high-definition graphics. In addition to the visual improvements, this version will include full voice acting for the game’s dialogue, a redesigned and more intuitive user interface, and new gameplay features such as an additional difficulty level, Squire, which is a more accessible option designed to ease new players into the experience.

Meanwhile, the Classic mode retains the original 1997 version’s gameplay and art direction, but with some modern upgrades. Players can expect convenient features like auto-save functionality and the inclusion of the improved English localisation from Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions.

Square Enix believes that the combination of these two modes will help Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles appeal to both nostalgic veterans and a new generation of strategy RPG enthusiasts.

The game is scheduled to launch on September 30 and will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
