GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT 20-Hour Story Leads Into a Co-Op Endgame

Bandai Namco is looking to give players plenty to do with GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT, with its developers revealing that completing the main story should take around 20 hours before a separate multiplayer endgame opens up.

The high-mobility action game is already taking Gundam in a different direction, pitting the Gundam Helix against mysterious extraterrestrial enemies known as Apocalypse while placing a heavy emphasis on fast, melee-focused combat and extensive Mobile Suit customisation.

It also forms part of the wider RG Project, sharing a universe with the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO anime, something we previously covered following the project’s reveal. The two take place in different periods within that shared setting and are designed so neither requires understanding of the other.

Main Story Should Take Around 20 Hours

In a recentĀ Famitsu interview, producer Yuya Tomiyama said players who progress relatively directly through the story can expect around 20 hours of playtime.

That figure is not intended as a fixed runtime, however. Tomiyama explained that individual playtimes will vary depending on how players approach the game, particularly for those who spend more time experimenting with its other systems and customising their Mobile Suit.

Customisation is a significant part of GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT, allowing players to combine different parts and Apocalypse Units with their preferred skills, colours and loadouts to create a Gundam suited to how they want to fight.

Finishing the story will not mark the end either. Rather than relying entirely on another run through the campaign, GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT will unlock a multiplayer mode where teams of three can take on powerful enemies together.

Director Yoshiyuki Serizawa and Tomiyama are keeping further details under wraps for now, but confirmed the mode will also give players a place to show off the Mobile Suits they built through the game’s customisation systems. There will not, however, be a dedicated photo mode at launch.

The developers are also holding back the final number of playable Mobile Suits and Apocalypse enemy types, although Tomiyama noted that what has been revealed so far represents only part of the full selection. With a sizeable campaign followed by dedicated cooperative content, there should be considerably more to GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT than simply reaching the end of its story.

GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT launches on March 5, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
