After Apocalypse Gundam Timeline Connects Rogue Orbit and XARX-ZERO

Bandai Namco Entertainment is turning GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT into more than a standalone action game. The upcoming high-mobility Gundam title is now confirmed as part of the wider RG Project, a new multimedia initiative that connects the game with the newly announced anime Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO.

Both projects share the same After Apocalypse timeline, giving Gundam another fresh continuity outside long-running eras such as Universal Century, Anno Domini, After Colony, and Ad Stella.

That makes GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT a much bigger deal than its Summer Game Fest reveal first suggested. What initially looked like a fast, melee-heavy Gundam action game is now part of a broader cross-media universe built to tell one connected history across anime and games.

The After Apocalypse Era Begins With Humanity Leaving Earth

The After Apocalypse timeline begins with the arrival of the Autonomous Interstellar Object, a mysterious entity from another galaxy. It brings humanity 3 major breakthroughs: Gravity Control, FTL Communication, and Cognitive Materialization. These technologies allow humans to expand across the solar system and enter a new age of prosperity.

That prosperity does not last. Less than 10 years later, the Object turns hostile and gives rise to an aggressive self-replicating ecosystem called the Apocalypse. Humanity fights it for 3 months in orbit above Earth, but eventually abandons the planet entirely. That year becomes A.A. 1, the first year of After Apocalypse.

Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO Tells the Origin Story

Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO is set in A.A. 45, decades after humanity’s retreat from Earth. The anime follows Ray Azumi, a boy born into a generation that has never known life without the Apocalypse. The first teaser visual places him alongside Gundam ZERO, suggesting the series will explore the origins of this world and the decisions that shape the future seen later in GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT.

The anime is being produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks with SOLA Animation handling animation production. Kenji Kamiyama, known for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, is directing and handling series composition, while Toh Enjoe serves as SF setting supervisor.

GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT Takes Place After the Anime

GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT is set later in the same continuity, with players stepping into the cockpit of Gundam Helix as pilot RE-X. The game is being developed by Bandai Namco Studios for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with a planned 2027 launch. Its official description pitches it as a fast, cinematic action game with hard-hitting melee combat, sprawling battlefields, massive bosses, and a new threat to humanity.

Bandai Namco has also confirmed wider product tie-ins, including an HG 1/144 Gundam Helix Gunpla model kit and a Gundam Card Game promotional card featuring the game’s key art.

RG Project Gives Gundam a New Entry Point

The most interesting part of the reveal is how deliberate the RG Project feels. Rather than releasing an anime and game that merely share branding, Bandai Namco is building a single timeline where each project shows the world from a different point in history. The anime explains how the After Apocalypse era begins, while the game lets players enter the future shaped by those events.

For long-time fans, that gives the new continuity more weight. For newcomers, it could also work as a clean entry point into Gundam without decades of prior lore. Both Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO and GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT are currently planned for 2027.
