Lords of the Fallen II Combat Gives Players Far More Ways to Fight
Switching from a pair of daggers to a scythe midway through a combo sounds like precisely the kind of unnecessary violence Lords of the Fallen II wants players to embrace. CI Games has offered its most extensive look yet at the sequel’s combat overhaul through Episode 11 of its Lifting the Veil development series, titled Steel & Sorcery.
The latest showcase dives into changes across melee, magic and ranged combat, with greater emphasis on hybrid builds and seamlessly combining different tools during a fight. It builds substantially on the faster and more aggressive combat we saw earlier this year, with the studio now detailing nearly 30 distinct weapon movesets, compared to 15 in the 2023 game.
Mid-Combo Weapon Swapping Opens Up Hybrid Builds
One of the biggest changes is the ability to switch between two melee loadouts without interrupting a combo. Players can begin an attack sequence with one weapon and finish with something completely different, while switching between one-handed and two-handed stances remains possible on the fly.
Individual weapon classes also gain stronger identities through repositioning attacks, extended combo chains and area-of-effect manoeuvres. Counterstrikes add another defensive option, while boss weapons can feature unique signature attacks rather than simply serving as stronger versions of regular equipment.
That expanded flexibility follows CI Games’ broader efforts to make Lords of the Fallen II feel more reactive than its predecessor. Its earlier Umbral 2.0 showcase similarly reworked how the parallel realm responds to player activity, rather than simply carrying over the systems of the 2023 release.
Quickfires Let Magic and Projectiles Join Melee Combos
Hybrid builds should also be considerably easier to use thanks to the new Quickfire system. Each melee loadout can carry two Quickfire abilities, letting players immediately use magic, ranged attacks or buffs without changing combat stance. A melee sequence could therefore flow directly into a thrown javelin or spell before returning to close-range attacks.
Dedicated magic and ranged stances now offer mobility comparable to melee, while spellcasters can equip four spells to a single catalyst and switch to another catalyst containing another four. Chargeable spell variants provide additional flexibility, and seven different schools of magic will be available.
Mana can also be replenished through the Sanguinarix instead of requiring separate consumables, reducing some of the friction around committing to magic-heavy builds.
Ranged Builds Can Finally Last an Entire Playthrough
Dedicated ranged characters are getting similar attention. Standard ammunition will now be infinite, allowing bows and other ranged weapons to serve as primary tools instead of options players constantly ration. More powerful ammunition types remain limited, but can be replenished at specific points throughout the world.
CI Games is also letting players recover invested weapon upgrades for a small cost, making it less punishing to experiment with unfamiliar equipment later in the game.
The developer says much of this work has been informed by community feedback, including its Launch Creative Team. Members are recruited directly from the Souls community and must have at least 1,000 hours of experience with the genre before working alongside the development team on combat, exploration, progression and other systems.

Lords of the Fallen II Remains on Track for Q1 2027
The additional combat work comes after CI Games moved Lords of the Fallen II into a Q1 2027 release window, giving the team more time for integration, iteration and polish. The company previously said the revised timing would also move the game away from the particularly competitive holiday period.
The sequel is heading to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, while its Nintendo Switch 2 version was confirmed during June’s Nintendo Direct. PLAION will handle global physical distribution and retail sales.
For a sequel already promising a more aggressive Umbral realm and more vicious encounters, the latest combat reveal suggests CI Games is equally focused on ensuring Lampbearers have enough tools to fight back.
