God of War Laufey Delayed to May 20, 2027
Faye’s journey through the Everywhen will begin a little later than originally planned. Sony Interactive Entertainment and Sony Santa Monica have delayed God of War Laufey from February 16, 2027 to May 20, 2027, pushing the PlayStation 5 exclusive back by roughly three months.
Sony Santa Monica announced the revised release date through its official social channels, saying the team will use the additional development time for final polish and to push the game to its “fullest potential”. It changes the timeline established when God of War Laufey received its original February release date, although the studio says more updates are coming soon.
Sony Santa Monica Wants More Time for the Finishing Touches
Sony Santa Monica has kept its explanation relatively straightforward.
“Since the reveal of God of War Laufey in June, we’ve been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye’s journey through the Everywhen,” the studio said, before confirming its decision to move the release to May 20. It added that the remaining months will be spent applying finishing touches rather than outlining any specific development issue behind the delay.
The previous February 16 date had been reiterated as recently as September, when the PlayStation Blog detailed pre-orders, editions and more of Faye’s combat abilities.
Faye Brings a Different Style of Combat to God of War
Rather than returning to Kratos, God of War Laufey centres on his wife Faye following her arrival in the mysterious Everywhen. Her combat kit already looks markedly different. Faye can customise her sword, Serpent Bow and Catalysts, with the latter allowing her to channel different forms of Everywhen magic. Armour and equipment can also be tailored around different perks and playstyles.
Sony Santa Monica has positioned the project as a standalone adventure, meaning players will not need to complete God of War or God of War Ragnarök beforehand, although both provide additional context for Faye, Kratos and Atreus.
For now, those curious about how Faye’s faster combat and journey through the Everywhen will reshape the familiar formula will simply need to wait a little longer.
God of War Laufey will launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 on May 20, 2027.
