No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 Overhauls Character Progression
Moon Studios has detailed one of the biggest changes coming to No Rest for the Wicked at launch, replacing its existing attribute-driven progression with 24 weapon-based classes and 362 traits. The overhaul was shown during the latest Wicked Inside developer showcase, which also revealed six joinable factions, a new Cerim Cores system and more of what players can expect when version 1.0 arrives in March 2027.
Moon Studios says No Rest for the Wicked has now reached more than two million players during Steam Early Access. The full release is planned for PC and PlayStation 5 after being delayed from its previous October window.
Weapons Now Determine Your Class
The current attribute system is being removed entirely for 1.0. Instead, picking up and equipping a weapon determines a player’s class from 24 possibilities, while selected traits can be carried between classes to create hybrid builds. Moon Studios demonstrated combinations ranging from electrically charged spear attacks to stealth-oriented setups that can end encounters before they properly begin.
362 traits span the 24 classes, far more than the buildcrafting Moon Studios first teased when it outlined the original 1.0 plans earlier this year. The idea seems to reduce the risk of players locking themselves into a build through early stat allocation. Weapon choice determines how a Cerim fights, while traits let players mix parts of those playstyles.
Cerim Cores Replace Traditional Stat Investment
Basic character attributes have not disappeared completely. Instead, Cerim Cores handle them, governing survivability and other passive bonuses. Some offer straightforward increases to health, stamina and Focus, while more specialised Cores include effects such as Feral, which increases attack speed, and Crimson, which provides lifesteal.
Players can exceed their Core capacity, but doing so comes with a trade-off: increased incoming damage. That turns the system into another part of buildcrafting rather than a straightforward ladder of permanent stat upgrades.
Six Factions Add New Questlines and Rewards
Version 1.0 will also introduce six joinable factions across Isola Sacra. Moon Studios has named the assassin-focused Severed Hand, the knightly Sacrament Guard and the Unspoken among them. Each faction comes with its own questline, traits, vendors and additional rewards as players rise through its ranks.

The wider 1.0 update is described as roughly doubling the game’s size, with new explorable areas, enemy factions, bosses, loot changes, combat improvements, and quality-of-life work also planned. PlayStation 5 optimisation remains another focus ahead of launch.
Players who want to see where things currently stand can find No Rest for the Wicked through its Steam Early Access page. With March 2027 still several months away, the new progression systems make it increasingly clear that 1.0 is intended to be considerably more than simply removing the Early Access label.
