Planet Zoo 2 Aquatic And Flying Species Bring A Wilder Sequel To Frontier’s Zoo Sim

Frontier Developments has officially announced Planet Zoo 2, with the animal management sequel launching on October 13 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The follow-up builds on the creative management foundations of the original Planet Zoo, but its headline additions are substantial. For the first time in the series, players will be able to build aquariums and aviaries, allowing fully aquatic species and flying birds to become part of their parks.

That is a major step for a series built around habitat design, animal welfare, guest management, and conservation. Planet Zoo 2 is not just adding more animals; it is also widening the types of spaces players can create, while pushing the simulation further into wildlife restoration and natural ecosystems. With Planet Coaster 2 under its belt as well, the team at Frontier are well positioned to do even more for players.

Aquariums And Aviaries Expand Habitat Building

Planet Zoo 2 will introduce fully aquatic species such as Black Tipped Reef Sharks, Hawksbill Turtles, and colourful shoals of fish across freshwater and saltwater habitats.

These aquariums are not being treated as simple decorative tanks. Players will be able to customise their placement, scenery, and layout, while also managing practical needs such as filtration and staff access through airlocks.

Aviaries bring a different layer of creativity, with flying birds such as the Toco Toucan and Secretary Bird joining the roster. Players can edit these spaces with scenery and support poles, while some aviaries will also allow guests to walk through them, creating more immersive attractions.

Conservation Moves Beyond The Zoo Gates

Planet Zoo 2 is also expanding its conservation focus beyond traditional zoo management. Players will now take on projects across global Wildlife Reserves, restoring natural habitats and releasing animals into living ecosystems. That gives the sequel a broader sense of purpose. Instead of focusing solely on animals in enclosed habitats, Planet Zoo 2 asks players to consider how their work contributes to broader environmental recovery.

The core management loop remains familiar, with players balancing animal wellbeing, guest satisfaction, staff morale, training, and habitat design. The difference is that the sequel appears to give conservation a more active role in the progression, rather than leaving it mostly in the background.

Pre-Orders and Deluxe Edition Details Confirmed

Pre-orders are available now, with early buyers receiving a Bonus Content Pack at launch. This includes the Toucan Eat Shop and signage, three Unique Animal Donation Bins, and the Tiger Photo Stand In Wall.

Planet Zoo 2 will also receive a Deluxe Edition, which includes the base game and the Deluxe Upgrade Pack. That edition adds six additional animal species from around the world, along with exclusive animal signs for park decoration.

Frontier is also set to share more on Planet Zoo 2 during the Wholesome Games showcase on June 6 and the PC Gaming Show on June 7, giving players a closer look at how its aquariums, aviaries, and Wildlife Reserves will work in practice.

Planet Zoo 2 arrives later this year on October 13 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
