Playstation Vr2 Receives Big Permanent Price Drop in Southeast Asia

When it comes to gaming technology, virtual reality (VR) offers a far more immersive and interactive experience compared to conventional gaming. However, despite the efforts of major manufacturers, including Sony, VR has yet to achieve mainstream success. Limited software support and high pricing remain significant hurdles. The good news? If you have been eyeing the PlayStation VR2, the time to jump in is now.

Following the recent decision in other regions to implement a permanent price reduction for the PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Asia has now confirmed the same strategy for Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam.

The price cut is substantial. Starting in March 2025, the official retail price of the PlayStation VR2 will be at:

  • SGD 649
  • MYR 2,099
  • IDR 7,799,000
  • THB 15,990
  • PHP 24,990
  • VND 12,999,000

In Singapore, that will see the set drop SG$220 from its initial launch price of SG$869 (February 2023) The same pricing will also apply to the PlayStation VR2 bundle that includes Horizon Call of the Mountain, effectively making the Guerrilla Games’ VR title free with purchase.

A recent update to the PS VR2 has brought support for low-latency hand tracking as well, which allows developers to create games that track a player’s hand position and movement through the cameras embedded on the headset.

The PlayStation VR2 can also be used within the PC ecosystem, allowing users to access a broader range of VR content using a special adaptor. This move has often been interpreted as an indirect admission that Sony’s latest VR technology has fallen short of sales expectations, and this further price cut may help drive more demand.

With this significant price reduction, it remains to be seen whether PlayStation VR2 will gain stronger traction in the gaming community or if VR technology will continue to struggle to find widespread adoption. Either way, players hoping for a better deal have got their wish.
