Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster Revealed for 2027

Dotemu and Old Skull Games have announced Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster, a new standalone single-player 2D action platformer coming to PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2027.

Revealed during the Warhammer Skulls showcase, the game follows Vihneek, a hooded Skaven assassin from the shadowy Eshin clan. His mission is simple in theory but unstable in practice: climb the ranks, serve his masters, and survive a world where loyalty is never stronger than ambition.

A Skaven Story Built Around Treachery and Ambition

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster takes players into the darker corners of the Skaven world, where Vihneek is trying to carve a path towards becoming one of the deadliest assassins in the Mortal Realms.

The premise fits neatly into Skaven lore. In a race defined by scheming, betrayal, paranoia, and a constant scramble for power, Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster has a strong narrative foundation for a stealth-focused action game. Vihneek’s masters may demand loyalty, but the game’s setup makes it clear that personal ambition will drive much of the journey.

Rather than adapting a known tabletop campaign, Deathmaster is described as a self-contained story set in the Age of Sigmar. That should make it approachable for new players while still giving Warhammer fans a closer look at the Skaven from a more personal, ground-level perspective.

2D Action With Stealth and Platforming at Its Core

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster is being positioned as a fresh take on Warhammer through the lens of 2D action platforming. Dotemu says the game draws inspiration from classic action platformers and stealth-enriched design, with players using traps, movement, and environmental awareness to outwit enemies.

The key fantasy is not simply fighting through waves of enemies. Vihneek is an assassin, which means the action is expected to revolve around timing, positioning, and striking from the shadows. Players will be able to slip past threats, exploit dark spaces, and deal with enemies ranging from lesser Skaven to hulking rat ogors.

That blend gives Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster a distinct identity from the larger-scale Warhammer games, which often focus on armies, squads, or tactical battles. Here, the focus is narrower and more intimate, centred on one ambitious killer trying to survive a world just as dangerous as he is.

Dotemu Brings Another Classic-Inspired Project to Warhammer

Dotemu’s involvement gives the announcement extra weight. The publisher has built a strong reputation for modernising classic genres through titles such as Streets of Rage 4, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, Metal Slug Tactics, and Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster Revealed for 2027

That history makes Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster an interesting fit. Warhammer has no shortage of grim worlds and violent conflict, but a tightly designed 2D stealth action platformer gives the franchise a different kind of adaptation. It also lets Old Skull Games build around mood, readability, and moment-to-moment control rather than scale alone.

The art direction is leaning heavily into decay, shadow, and atmospheric tension, presenting the Skaven world as twisted, hostile, and full of secrets. If the final game can match that visual tone with strong platforming and stealth systems, Deathmaster could become one of the more distinctive Warhammer releases on the horizon.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster is planned for release in 2027 on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. No exact release date has been announced yet.
