Monster Hunter Wilds Hype Driving Increased Sales for World

With a year as stacked as 2025, it is a clear sign of the popularity of Capcom‘s Monster Hunter series that the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds is amongst the most highly anticipated titles of the year. While others may covet time spent in Death Stranding 2 or GTA VI, there are many other hunters hoping to bring down more beasts to craft more prized possessions. In fact, the excitement has even extended to the previous entry, Monster Hunter: World.

Released back in 2018, recent data has shown a surge in sales for World. As reported by Automaton, in the months of October to December 2024, the game has managed to sell more than 1 million copies. This brings the overall number of sales to 28.1 million copies in the past seven years.

In addition to Monster Hunter: World, the Iceborne DLC has also seen great success during the same period. About 900,000 copies have been sold to bring the total up to 14.9 million, and even Monster Hunter Rise has seen recent sales numbers that have hit approximately 700,000.

Considering that Monster Hunter Wilds will be the new mainline entry for seven years, it is no wonder that ahead of the release, more and more interested players are jumping into older games to get themselves ready. Of course, there will be familiar elements, but the new entry is set to freshen things up in other ways to keep improving the gameplay formula.

Capcom is also very optimistic about the hype around the game, with preorder numbers indicating that they have yet another hit on their hands. The Japanese gaming giant’s financial forecasts are in a similar vein, with high expectations on initial sales numbers.

Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled for release on February 28, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
