ASUS Pad OLED Tablet Brings The Brand Back To A More Competitive Tablet Space

ASUS is returning to the tablet category with the ASUS Pad, a new Android 16 device built around a large OLED display, slim design, and everyday entertainment use.

The ASUS Pad features a 12.2-inch 2.8K dual-layer OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, giving the tablet a clear focus on streaming, reading, casual gaming, and portable productivity. It also arrives with a 3:2 aspect ratio, 100% DCI P3 colour coverage, and TÜV Rheinland certification for reduced blue light and flicker-free use.

That display is the centrepiece of ASUS’ return. In a tablet market led heavily by Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, and Xiaomi, ASUS is clearly trying to re-enter with a device that feels premium without positioning itself purely as a laptop replacement.

OLED And Dolby Atmos Lead The Entertainment Push

The dual-layer OLED panel is designed to improve brightness, efficiency, and panel lifespan compared to traditional single-layer OLED screens. For users who mainly use tablets for video, comics, reading, and game streaming, that should make the ASUS Pad feel like a more modern entertainment device.

ASUS has paired the screen with a quad-speaker Dolby Atmos system, aiming for a more cinematic experience from a portable device. The 92% screen to body ratio also helps make the tablet feel more display-first, keeping attention on content rather than thick bezels.

The ASUS Pad is not being pitched as a gaming tablet in the ROG sense, but the 144Hz screen and MediaTek Dimensity 8300 chipset should still support smooth casual gaming and responsive app navigation.

Lightweight Design Makes Portability A Key Selling Point

The ASUS Pad weighs 523g and measures 6.5mm thick, making portability one of its strongest practical features. The tablet uses a magnesium chassis with a fibreglass back cover, balancing a slimmer build with everyday durability.

That matters because many large tablets can become awkward to use for long sessions. ASUS appears to be targeting users who want something light enough for reading, travel, study, streaming on the couch, or quick productivity tasks away from a desk.

Battery life should also help. The ASUS Pad includes a 9000mAh battery with 45W USB-C fast charging, with ASUS claiming it can reach up to 50% in around 30 minutes under its lab testing conditions.

Gemini And GlideX Add Smarter Productivity Features

The ASUS Pad also includes several features designed to make it more useful beyond entertainment. ASUS GlideX enables cross-device interaction with PCs, including screen sharing and file transfers, which could help students and hybrid workers move content between devices more easily.

Google features are also part of the experience, including Circle to Search and Gemini support. These additions give the tablet more practical everyday utility, especially for quick lookups, study tasks, and information handling without constant app switching.

Accessory support includes ASUS Pen 2.0 and Bluetooth keyboard compatibility, though both are optional and availability may differ by market. A protective case is included in the box, although ASUS notes it is intended for surface scratch protection rather than impact resistance.

ASUS has not yet confirmed local pricing or availability. For now, the ASUS Pad looks like a serious return to tablets, built less around one specialised use case and more around being a reliable everyday screen for entertainment, study, work, and light gaming.
