Xbox Games Showcase - Dragon Age the Veilguard Sets Fall 2024 Window After Name Change

Roleplaying fans who have been eagerly awaiting news of BioWare‘s next take on the Dragon Age franchise will soon be able to see it in action for themselves, as the newly rebranded Dragon Age: The Veilguard is launching this Fall, and we got a new trailer to enjoy as well at the Xbox Games Showcase during Summer Game Fest 2024.

Coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, this fourth mainline title of the series seems to have a more colourful vibe, with a decidedly less serious tone, at least from this viewing. Other than Varric, who makes his return as a grizzled veteran, the rest of the cast introduced includes:

  • Harding: The Scout
  • Neve: The Detective
  • Emmrich: The Necromancer
  • Taash: The Dragon Hunter
  • Davrin: The Warden
  • Bellara: The Veil Jumper
  • Lucanis: The Mage Killer

As is a BioWare game, the developers are promising that the characters in Dragon Age: The Veilguard will have deep backstories and extensive lore for fans to get into, and should you choose the route of romance, that will be possible as well.

This early taste of what is to come will be complemented by a hopefully much richer showing at a gameplay reveal livestream that is happening on June 11, so be sure to pencil in some time to check out what could be another excellent RPG coming our way.

The name change for the game also doesn’t mean that the threat of Solas is any lesser, but the team felt that having him front and centre in the name didn’t sit quite right. “Naturally, the Dread Wolf still has an important part in this tale, but you and your companions — not your enemies — are the heart of this new experience,” shared BioWare in a blog post.

Dragon Age the Veilguard

That’s definitely good news to hear, as it has always been the cast of characters that made the series shine even brighter. Here’s hoping that Dragon Age: The Veilguard does the same later this year.
