Full Metal Schoolgirl is EDF Developers New Project With Upgradable War Machines

When you hear the name D3 Publisher, chances are your mind immediately jumps to giant monster battles and over-the-top action. This is very apparent with the long-running Earth Defense Force series, known for its patriotic satire and chaotic gameplay. But the Japanese publisher isn’t done surprising fans. Their latest announcement introduces a new title that’s just as wild, if not more so, in Full Metal Schoolgirl.

As the title suggests, Full Metal Schoolgirl will have players take on the role of one of two high school girls: Ryoko Arahabaki and Akemi Minamizabu. The pair live in a dystopian, futuristic world, and in this bleak setting, a mega-corporation called Meternal Jobz has exploited its employees to the extreme. This means working 24/7, even after death, with the use of cyborg bodies.

As you might expect, it falls upon Ryoko and Akemi to bring down the oppressive corporation, which operates from within a towering 100-story building. The evil CEO stands at the top, and it won’t be an easy trek to the summit.

What to Expect in Full Metal Schoolgirl

D3 Publisher describes the game as a roguelite action title. Players will ascend through Meternal Jobz’s tower floor by floor, facing randomly generated levels and ever-evolving challenges. True to roguelite tradition, each death presents an opportunity to grow stronger through permanent upgrades, adding a strategic layer to the fast-paced combat.

The two protagonists possess unique abilities that distinguish them. They can customise their bodies and equip increasingly powerful weaponry, whether melee or ranged. This personalisation forms a core element of the gameplay loop.

Materials and rewards obtained from defeating the enemies will feed into the upgrade loop, together with equipment and enhancements that will make every run feel fresh and different.

Full Metal Schoolgirl represents D3 Publisher’s continued commitment to blending eccentric ideas with solid gameplay. With its unique mix of anime flair, dystopian narrative, and roguelite mechanics, it’s shaping up to be one of the more intriguing indie titles to watch this year.

Scheduled for release on October 23, Full Metal Schoolgirl will launch on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
