Board Game Keep the Heroes Out! Makes the Jump to PC & Switch This December

A Board Game Hit Goes Digital

Brueh Games and YarnCat Games have announced that the digital adaptation of Keep the Heroes Out!, based on Luís Brueh’s acclaimed dungeon defence board game, will launch on December 9 for PC and Nintendo Switch. Versions for Xbox and Meta Quest will be released at a later date.

The board game became a breakout success after raising more than twenty times its Kickstarter goal in 2024. It is a cooperative dungeon defence game for one to four players where you take on the role of monsters defending their treasure from waves of invading heroes. The digital adaptation aims to preserve the whole tabletop experience with new accessibility features and streamlined online play.

Bringing the Dungeon to Life

The video game recreates the original’s asymmetric co-op structure. Players work together to protect the dungeon’s treasure rooms while surviving two complete cycles of the Guild deck. If the main treasure is stolen, the team loses, but monsters can return to the dungeon after defeat, ensuring no player is ever removed from the match.

The digital version maintains the distinctive art style and core mechanics of the board game, with computer-controlled heroes replacing the manual management required on the tabletop. This allows for solo play against AI enemies as well as online co-op with friends. YarnCat Games has enhanced the visuals with smooth animation and added a full tutorial to help new players learn the systems.

A free demo of Keep the Heroes Out! is currently available on Steam, offering access to the tutorial and the first stage.

From Tabletop Success to a New Audience

Since its release in 2022, the original board game has sold over 70,000 copies and earned a Golden Geek nomination for Best Cooperative Game on BoardGameGeek. It currently ranks among the top 500 board games on the site and within the top 100 thematic titles.

Speaking about the digital launch of Keep the Heroes Out!, designer Luís Brueh said he always knew fans wanted a way to experience the game remotely. He thanked the community for supporting the digital version through Kickstarter and for helping spread the word.

Keep the Heroes Out! arrives on December 9 on PC and Nintendo Switch, followed by Xbox and Meta Quest versions at a later date.
