NBA The Run Confirms June 9 Launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
NBA The Run now has a firm release date. Play by Play Studios, the NBA, and the NBPA have confirmed the 3v3 streetball title will launch June 9 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
Ahead of launch, the team is also running another beta playtest on Steam on May 16. This test is being framed as a meaningful update rather than a repeat run, with new content and a key mode addition that changes how players approach team control.
Knockout Solos Arrives, Shifting Control to Full Team Management
The May 16 playtest introduces Knockout Solos, a mode where each player controls their entire team of three. That is a significant shift from the “control one character” feel that defines many squad-based sports games, and it should appeal to players who prefer full tactical control rather than relying on matchmaking chemistry.
It also gives a clearer read on NBA The Run’s competitive identity. Solos is likely to become the mode where meta decisions and team composition matter most, because every mistake, rotation, and shot selection belongs entirely to the player.
The playtest also adds a new character, including an original street legend named Spin Cycle, continuing the game’s mix of real NBA stars and fictional court personalities.
Deluxe Edition Details Highlight Cosmetic and Progression Hooks
NBA The Run will launch with two editions: Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe version includes three additional playable character variants unlocked up front: Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors ‘09 Rookie Variant), Luka Dončić (Dallas Mavericks ‘18 Rookie Variant), and Kevin Durant (Seattle Supersonics ‘07 Rookie Variant).
It also includes 1,000 CRED, an in-game currency used to purchase items in the shop. The list of cosmetics and unlockables includes alternate jerseys, dunk animations, taunts, badges, banners, and other identity customisation.
The Core Structure Remains a Knockout Tournament Loop
At the centre of NBA The Run is still the Run the World Tournament, a four-round knockout format where teams of three compete across streetball courts around the world, culminating in a finals court championship game for the trophy. This structure is built for repeat sessions rather than long seasons, keeping the game’s cadence focused on quick stakes and constant rematches.

At launch, three modes are confirmed: Knockout Squads, Knockout Solos, and Knockout Friends, the private tournament option that supports AI play, co-op against AI, and invited head-to-head sessions with up to 48 players supported at launch.
The roster at release includes 30+ NBA stars and five fictional streetball legends, with rollback netcode positioned as the technical foundation for online responsiveness.
NBA The Run launches June 9 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The next Steam playtest runs from May 16, 10 AM to 2 PM PDT.
