Summer Game Fest: Capcom Confirms Cross-Play for Monster Hunter Wilds

Summer Game Fest Capcom Confirms Cross-play for Monster Hunter Wilds

With Capcom‘s Monster Hunter Wilds being one of the most anticipated games coming in the future, it is no wonder that the latest entry in the fabled series was also part of the festivities at Summer Game Fest 2024. Dropping the latest trailer for the game, the Japanese company also took the opportunity to share that Monster Hunter Wilds will support cross-play as well.

In the new update, Capcom shared that Monster Hunter Wilds is currently in active development to dynamically and richly depict the story woven by the characters and monsters, allowing you to enjoy seamless gameplay while maintaining a deep sense of immersion. Cross-play will indeed allow players to do so, joining up with friends across platforms, but as for cross-progression, that is not being considered at the moment.

The latest trailer also gave us a few new glimpses of the environment and denizens that await hopeful hunters. This includes the Leviathan species monster that inhabits sandy areas and is also known as the Balahara, which moves smoothly through sand using its twisted body while utilising mucus secreted from its body to attack. Nasty stuff.

In the harsh environment of the Forbidden Lands, you will witness not only territorial battles between large monsters but also smaller monsters attacking larger ones. By understanding and adapting to the behaviour of monsters in such an environment, you can gain an advantage in your hunts. Therefore, be sure to carefully observe your surroundings.

Showcasing the seamlessness of what the team is trying to achieve, the trailer also shows a hunter being joined by another on the Seikret mount in a cutscene, before shifting to actual gameplay as the pair tries to escape the pack of Balahara. While mounted, players can fend off attacks using their weapon, while the mount will also try its best to evade attacks.

That’s plenty to whet the appetite already, but if you want more, the next major update will be revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024 in August, with the world’s first playable experience being available at the venue itself.
