EA Sports FC 27 The Grounds and FUT Updates Push Player Identity Further

Electronic Arts has shared 2 major deep dives for EA Sports FC 27, giving players a closer look at The Grounds, Clubs, and Football Ultimate Team after peeling back the curtains on overall gameplay and Career Mode.

The 2 modes are very different, but the direction is similar. EA wants players to feel more connected to their identity, their club, and their long-term progression. The Grounds turns Clubs into a more social shared world, while FUT is adding more collection-driven systems beyond simply chasing the next squad upgrade.

The Grounds Turns Clubs Into a Shared Football Playground

The Grounds is one of this year’s biggest additions in EA Sports FC 27. Available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, the mode brings up to 100 players into a shared football playground built around a central Terrace and 3 districts inspired by different football cultures: Montclair, Zeiza, and Parkside.

The Terrace acts as the starting point, while the Clubhouse becomes the new home of Clubs. From there, players can access Leagues, PlayOffs, 11v11 Drop-In, Rush, and other stadium-based activities.

There are also new Clubs Live Tournaments, giving Clubmates another way to compete beyond standard Leagues and PlayOffs. These events can feature different formats, rules, rounds, and rewards, including House Rules such as Mystery Ball, King of the Hill, No Rules, Headers and Volleys, Survival, and Long Range.

Kickabouts Add Stranger Social Mini-Games

The Grounds is not only about regular football. EA is also adding Kickabouts, smaller social activities that mix football with party-game-style rules. These include Bocce Ball, Team Keepaway, The Big Race, Attacking Scenarios, Bucket Ball, Balloon Ball, Goal Control, and Drop Kick Targets.

Some are competitive, while some are more playful. All of them appear designed to make The Grounds in EA Sports FC 27 feel like a place players hang out in, not just a menu with a nicer skin. Mentors will also guide players through different parts of the mode, with Alex Hunter returning from The Journey alongside Kylian Mbappé, Chloe Kelly, and Paulo Dybala. Each mentor is tied to a specific area of improvement or football culture.

Clubs Progression Gets More Flexible

Clubs progression is also changing in EA Sports FC 27. All Archetypes are unlocked by default, and resets no longer cost Coins or consumables. Players can fine-tune individual attributes instead of wiping a full build, which should make experimentation much less punishing.

Masteries add long-term progression across Archetypes. Reaching milestones with one Archetype can unlock permanent attribute boosts for every build, encouraging players to try more roles rather than sticking to one setup all year.

Amps are another new addition. These limited-use items can add attribute boosts, PlayStyles, PlayStyles+, or Perks to an active Archetype for a set number of matches. They can be earned through Objectives, Live Events, Campaigns, season progression, and the Store.

Football Ultimate Team is also getting a major new feature with FUT Gallery. The Gallery lets Player Items contribute to Sets based on themes such as nations, leagues, clubs, and campaigns. Even if an Item has been sold or submitted into an SBC, it can still contribute to Gallery Sets, giving past players a longer-term legacy inside your club.

Completed Sets receive grades based on the Items included, with higher-rated and special Items improving the score. Gallery progression can then unlock cosmetics, Gallery Tokens, and other rewards. Holographic Items are also being introduced as rarer visual versions of eligible special Items, though their in-match attributes remain the same.

That distinction matters. Holographic Items are not stronger on the pitch. They are rarer, more visually distinctive, and more valuable for display and Set scoring.

SBCs, Evolutions, and Rewards Are Being Streamlined

EA is also changing several core FUT systems in EA Sports FC 27. Streamlined SBCs will allow duplicate Items, partial progress, and more flexible requirements. EA says the format will be used across most Player and Upgrade SBCs, while Traditional SBCs will remain for more puzzle-focused challenges.

Evolutions are expanding with Pathways, which allow branching upgrade choices on selected Evos, and Evolution Chain Preview, which lets players see possible follow-up Evolutions before committing. The PlayStyle Lab is also returning as a recurring programme from Season 1.

Rewards are being adjusted too. EA says more progress will come through End of Match Rewards, direct FUT Coins, tradeable packs, and flexible reward paths. The goal is to make every match feel more useful, even after weekly rewards are completed.

EA Sports FC 27 Is Building Around Long-Term Engagement

Taken together, these deep dives show EA trying to make EA Sports FC 27 feel more persistent across its biggest online modes. The Grounds is built around shared space, Club identity, live events, and social mini-games. FUT is leaning harder into collecting, display, flexible progression, and more immediate rewards.

The question now is whether these systems feel generous and meaningful in practice. On paper, though, EA is clearly trying to give players more reasons to stay engaged beyond the usual match loop.

EA Sports FC 27 launches globally on September 25, with Early Access beginning on September 18 for Ultimate Edition and Ultimate Plus Edition owners.
