GTA VI Multiplayer Could Arrive in 2027, According to Twitch CEO
For all that Rockstar Games has revealed about GTA VI, one major part of the experience remains conspicuously absent: multiplayer. That is particularly notable given the enormous longevity of GTA Online, but Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive have so far kept their plans under wraps.
In fact, Rockstar currently describes this next game specifically as a single-player experience ahead of its November launch. We may now have our first indication of when that could change.
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has suggested that GTA VI’s multiplayer component will launch sometime in 2027, following conversations between Twitch and Rockstar about the upcoming game.
Twitch Has Been Talking to Rockstar About GTA VI
Speaking in a recent Bloomberg interview, Clancy discussed the enormous impact GTA VI is expected to have on livestreaming when it arrives later this year. According to Clancy, Twitch has spent considerable time speaking with Rockstar about its plans for the game, including ways to involve and support content creators.
More interestingly, he expects the launch to drive a significant increase in Twitch viewership, followed by an even larger surge next year “when they launch multiplayer”. That wording naturally points towards a 2027 release for whatever online component Rockstar has planned.
It is worth stressing, however, that this is not an official announcement from Rockstar or Take-Two. Neither company has confirmed a multiplayer mode, revealed what it will be called or provided any kind of release window.
Clancy’s comments carry more weight than a typical rumour because he specifically references Twitch’s discussions with Rockstar, but exactly how much of the company’s internal roadmap has been shared with Twitch remains unknown.
Still Launches as a Single-Player Experience
For now, Rockstar’s public focus remains squarely on Jason and Lucia’s single-player story across Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. GTA VI launches on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar’s official website still lists only those platforms and the single-player experience.
If Clancy’s comments prove accurate, Rockstar could be planning to separate the multiplayer launch from the main game, giving players several months of campaign before opening up its next major online experience.
Until Rockstar says something itself, though, 2027 remains our strongest indication rather than a confirmed release window.
