GTA VI PS5 File Size Reportedly Reaches 210 GB

With GTA VI just over three weeks away, PlayStation 5 owners may want to start deciding which games they are willing to sacrifice from their SSD. According to PlayStation Game Size, which tracks information appearing through PlayStation Network backend data, Rockstar Games’ upcoming open-world blockbuster has a reported 210 GB download size for its standard PS5 edition.

Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed the figure, so it should not yet be treated as the final installed footprint. It is also unclear whether the reported size includes any launch-day updates or whether installation will require additional temporary storage.

Even so, 210 GB would make GTA VI an exceptionally large download, so anyone running short on PS5 storage may need to make room before preload begins.

Preload Starts One Week Before Launch

Fortunately, Rockstar is giving digital players a full week to get that download out of the way. Preloading officially begins on November 12, with GTA VI unlocking at midnight local time on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar confirmed that schedule when pre-orders opened earlier this year.

The reported 210 GB figure currently applies only to the PS5 version. Rockstar has not confirmed equivalent download sizes for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and it has yet to announce the final storage requirement for either console.

The size also arrives as Rockstar’s marketing campaign enters its final stretch. The recent Grand Theft Auto VI launch trailer offered another look at Jason and Lucia’s story across Leonida, alongside new action sequences and original music from Justice.

Even Physical Buyers Will Need the Full Download

Buying a boxed copy won’t let you avoid the potentially hefty download either. Rockstar has confirmed that the physical edition includes a download code rather than a game disc, with boxed copies becoming available on November 12 so buyers can redeem their code and start preloading ahead of release.

That means the reported 210 GB download is particularly relevant whether players buy digitally or pick up the boxed Standard Edition. Rockstar recently explained how much foundational work went into building the technology behind Grand Theft Auto VI, but that ambition now appears likely to extend to storage as well.

For now, 210 GB remains a reported figure rather than Rockstar’s official final requirement. With preload opening on November 12, however, PS5 players should soon see exactly how much room Vice City demands.
