From the wave of rumours and speculation that had spread long before its official reveal to the vibrant discussions that lit up social media platforms, it was clear from the start just how high the anticipation was for the Nintendo Switch 2. Despite offering relatively few original innovations in terms of features, this upgraded version of the original Switch, now with improved performance, was welcomed with open arms. And all the pre-release hype translated brilliantly into actual sales numbers.
Thanks to the combination of strong consumer anticipation and Nintendo’s thorough preparations to ensure ample stock availability, a remarkable sales milestone was achieved. Nintendo officially announced that they sold more than 3.5 million units of the Nintendo Switch 2 within just four days of its launch.
This is an incredible achievement, making the Nintendo Switch 2 the leader of Nintendo’s most successful console launches in gaming history. For comparison, the PlayStation 5, which faced challenges due to the global pandemic at the time of its release, took around one month to reach the same sales figure. Meanwhile, the original Nintendo Switch sold approximately 2.74 million units within its first month on the market.

What makes this milestone even more impressive is that the number is expected to grow significantly. Nintendo is still expanding the console’s market availability, particularly in Southeast Asia. Countries such as Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines are slated to receive the Nintendo Switch 2 through official channels at the end of June 2025. Unfortunately, Indonesia is notably absent from the launch list, with no official explanation provided for its omission.
As of now, Nintendo has not provided details on how many of the 3.5 million units sold were part of the Mario Kart World bundle, nor have they shared insights into the average software sales performance on the new system.
