Nintendo packed its latest Nintendo Direct with around 45 minutes of Nintendo Switch 2 announcements, ports, remakes, release dates and a few genuinely substantial surprises.
Following the separate Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct a day earlier, the September 9 showcase turned its attention towards the wider Switch 2 lineup. New adventures for Samus and Kirby led Nintendo’s own reveals, while third-party support brought everything from Persona 6 and Monster Hunter Wilds to Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
Nintendo Direct September 2026 Had Plenty of Switch 2 Surprises
1. Metroid Ravenous Brings Samus Back to 2D
Nintendo revealed Metroid Ravenous, an entirely new 2D adventure starring Samus Aran and one of the clearest first-party highlights of the Direct.
The game launches on January 28, 2027, with Samus and Chozo Statue amiibo arriving alongside it. A Special Edition will also bundle a Samus in her Metroid Suit amiibo with the game and steel case.
2. Kirby and the World Beyond Is a New 3D Adventure
Kirby and the World Beyond sends the pink puffball on another full 3D adventure, but this time Nintendo promises expansive environments players can freely explore.
Copy Abilities remain central to navigating and interacting with the world, with the Switch 2 exclusive arriving in spring 2027, just in time for Kirby’s 35th anniversary.
3. Persona 6 Is Coming to Nintendo Switch 2
Persona 6 was already one of the most anticipated RPGs on the horizon, and Atlus confirmed the next mainline entry is also heading to Switch 2 during the Nintendo Direct.
The new game once again combines everyday life, social relationships and supernatural battles, but with a fresh cast and standalone story. No release date is confirmed yet.
4. Monster Hunter Wilds Arrives on Switch 2 in December
Capcom is bringing Monster Hunter Wilds to Switch 2 on December 4, and we got to see more at the Nintendo Direct.
The port includes all previously released Title Update content and supports full cross-platform online multiplayer, while local wireless play is also available. Even more importantly, the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion is also confirmed for Switch 2 in 2027.
5. Final Fantasy VII Revelation Completes the Trilogy on Switch 2
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will arrive on Switch 2 alongside its April 8, 2027 launch.
The final chapter of the remake trilogy sees Cloud and company taking to the skies aboard the Highwind as Sephiroth moves closer towards his endgame and Meteor threatens the planet.
6. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Gets a Definitive Edition
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition brings the Great Calamity back on February 25, 2027, as shown at the Nintendo Direct.
The Switch 2 edition includes the original Expansion Pass content, improved visuals and frame rate, larger enemy counts and a new Calamity Mode for anyone looking for a tougher fight. You can also transfer existing Switch save data.
7. The Witcher 3 Is Getting Remastered and a New Expansion
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered launches for Switch 2 on September 29 with visual, performance and gameplay improvements, including gyro aiming, touchscreen support and Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, and continues to impress at the Nintendo Direct.
Owners of the existing Switch version can upgrade for free. More surprisingly, CD Projekt Red also revealed Songs of the Past, an entirely new paid expansion arriving in 2027.
8. Persona 4 Revival Has a May Release Date
Persona 4 Revival launches for Switch 2 on May 20, 2027.
The remake returns to the murder mystery surrounding Inaba and the Midnight Channel, rebuilding the beloved RPG for a new generation while retaining its mix of social relationships, supernatural investigation and turn-based combat.
9. Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 Are Finally Coming Natively to Switch 2
Capcom is bringing three of its modern Resident Evil games to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16, as shown at the Nintendo Direct.
Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition are all receiving native Switch 2 versions, replacing the compromises associated with cloud-based Nintendo releases.
10. Pikmin 4 Gets Dandori Academy on Switch 2
Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy launches on November 12.
The new edition introduces microphone-based voice commands for Oatchi and a substantial Dandori Academy mode featuring timed treasure-collection challenges, difficulty settings, medals and online leaderboards. Nintendo plans to release 72 Dandori Academy stages over time.
11. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Reimagines Lara’s Original Adventure
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis rebuilds Lara Croft’s original 1996 journey from the ground up, and was on hand at the Nintendo Direct.
The new adventure retains the globe-trotting search for the Scion, sending Lara through Peru, Greece and Egypt with her familiar acrobatics and dual pistols. It launches for Switch 2 on February 12, 2027.
12. Mega Man: Dual Override Adds Proto Man as a Playable Character
Mega Man: Dual Override launches in spring 2027 for Switch 2 and Switch.
Proto Man joins Mega Man as a playable character, bringing a shield-focused fighting style alongside Mega Man’s traditional ranged attacks. Custom Chips allow further ability combinations, while both heroes can unleash new Override forms.
13. Mario Kart World Gets Classic SNES Courses
Mario Kart World received a free update immediately after the Nintendo Direct.
Ten courses inspired by the original Super Mario Kart can now be selected as standalone races, while the update also adds two new Knockout Tour routes and Spectator Mode for online and LAN play.
14. Star Fox Gets More Multiplayer While Star Fox Adventures Joins Nintendo Classics
Nintendo is expanding Star Fox with a free update on September 29. Battle Mode will support four players locally alongside team-based online matches, with three new stages set across Katina, Sector X and Venom.
Meanwhile, Star Fox Adventures joined the Nintendo GameCube Nintendo Classics library immediately after the Direct.
15. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Makes Wuhu Island Explorable
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launches on October 22 with 12 sports and a much larger role for Wuhu Island as showcased at the Nintendo Direct.
Outside the sporting events, players can freely explore the island, search for collectibles and take part in sightseeing activities. Island Crown mode also provides an offline progression ladder against increasingly difficult opponents.
16. Professor Layton and the New World of Steam Finally Has a Date
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam launches on December 10 for Switch 2 and Switch.
Professor Layton reunites with Luke in Steam Bison, an American town entering the industrial age and naturally filled with mysterious incidents and plenty of puzzles.
17. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Gets a Switch 2 Edition
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition arrives on December 3.
The upgraded edition introduces Heroes’ Vault, where players battle waves of enemies while strengthening their party between rounds, alongside new Hero Shimmer and her Foresight ability.
18. Yo-kai Watch 2 Returns With Haunted Domain
A nice surprise at the Nintendo Direct, Yo-kai Watch 2: Haunted Domain brings an expanded version of the second Yo-kai Watch adventure to Switch 2.
Enhanced visuals, additional story content and potentially new Yo-kai are all planned, although Nintendo and Level-5 have yet to announce a release window.
19. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Gets One Final Push
With launch almost here, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave received another showing at the Nintendo Direct ahead of its September 17 Switch 2 release.
The strategy RPG takes players to the Dagdan Empire and its Heroic Games, with tactical battles wrapped around an intertwining cast and story.
20. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Arrives Next Week
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight launches for Switch 2 on September 18.
The open-world Gotham adventure combines a broad retelling of Batman’s story with more substantial combat, while the Deluxe Edition includes the Mayhem Collection and additional villain-themed content.
21. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Is Available Now
Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII – Reunion made its Switch 2 debut immediately after the Nintendo Direct.
Zack Fair’s pre-Final Fantasy VII adventure arrives with upgraded visuals, fully voiced dialogue, revised action combat, and the rearranged soundtrack intact.
22. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Royal Edition Heads to Switch 2
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Royal Edition brings Henry of Skalitz’s sprawling medieval adventure to Switch 2 in 2027.
The package includes the base game, all premium story expansions, bonus equipment and an additional questline.
23. Danganronpa 2×2 Brings New Murders to Familiar Ground
Another likely fan-favourite at the Nintendo Direct, Danganronpa 2×2 launches on January 14, 2027.
Alongside an enhanced version of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, the package includes an entirely new scenario using the same characters and setting but introducing different victims, culprits and mysteries.
24. Metal Slug Ultimate Collection Packs in 10 Games
Metal Slug Ultimate Collection celebrates the franchise’s 30th anniversary with 10 classic entries.
Online multiplayer, leaderboards, galleries and an expanded Combat School Mode are included alongside the previously elusive location-test version of the original Metal Slug. It launches in 2027.
25. Cairn Gets a Switch 2 Demo
Cairn is heading to Switch 2 in early 2027, with a free demo available after the Nintendo Direct.
The climbing adventure follows Aava’s attempt to conquer Mount Kami, requiring players to carefully plan routes, manage resources and physically navigate the mountain.
26. Onyx: The Dark Grip Is a New Bloober Team Switch 2 Exclusive
Horror comes to the Nintendo Direct, as Bloober Team revealed Onyx: The Dark Grip, a 2.5D supernatural horror game exclusive to Switch 2.
Players control a mysterious Entity manipulating both the environment and a lone traveller moving through a haunted town. It arrives in 2027.
27. Stage Fright Brings Co-op Puzzle Solving From the Overcooked Team
Stage Fright comes from the creators of Overcooked! and is built around two-player cooperative problem-solving.
Players explore escape-room-style environments while trying to unravel a mystery surrounding a missing friend. It launches in 2027.
28. Eternal Anima Mixes Time Travel With Turn-Based Combat
As revealed at the Nintendo Direct, Eternal Anima launches on March 4, 2027.
The RPG follows peacekeeper Wade across different eras, using abilities including Psychometry and Future Sight to influence turn-based battles and uncover a history his society has tried to erase.
29. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Comes to Switch 2
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves arrives digitally on Switch 2 on October 22, as announced at the Nintendo Direct.
The Starter Edition includes previously released DLC fighters alongside Tokyo Revengers guests Mikey and Draken, with a physical release following in January 2027.
30. Romancing SaGa 3 Is Getting a Full 3D Remake
Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United rebuilds the 1995 RPG in full 3D with voice acting and newly arranged music.
The open-ended structure remains, with eight protagonists and a flexible quest system allowing players to shape their own adventure. It launches on February 16, 2027.
31. Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX Revives a Long-Lost Entry
Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX brings Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3 back with modern visuals, revised Dueling and content previously unavailable in North America.
As announced at the Nintendo Direct, it launches for Switch and Switch 2 on February 16, 2027.
32. Pokémon Pokopia Expands Its Wardrobe
Pokémon Pokopia showed Part 2 of its Expansion Pass during the Nintendo Direct, focusing heavily on customisation.
New accessories including sunglasses, ribbons and bow ties can be used to dress Ditto and other Pokémon when the DLC arrives later this year.
33. Meccha Chameleon Is Available Now
MECCHA CHAMELEON launched immediately after the Nintendo Direct.
The competitive multiplayer game combines hide-and-seek with drawing, asking players to paint themselves to blend into nearby objects and scenery while another team hunts them down.
34. Disney Dreamlight Valley Heads Underwater
Disney Dreamlight Valley: The Keepsake Sea arrives this November, as revealed at the Nintendo Direct.
The expansion introduces an underwater kingdom, new biomes and characters including Milo Thatch, Jack Sparrow and Megara.
35. Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale Brings Southeast Asian Inspiration
Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale is a colourful 3D platforming adventure inspired by Southeast Asian cultures, and a welcome sight at the Nintendo Direct.
Players control Kaya as she uses her Spoon to fight enemies and tackle rhythm-based puzzles on a coming-of-age journey through Selera. It arrives in 2027.
36. Kirby Air Riders Gets More amiibo
Outside of games at the Nintendo Direct, Kirby Air Riders will add Sword Kirby & Dragoon and Noir Dedede & Hydra amiibo on November 12.
Nintendo also teased an upcoming in-game event with rewards and changes to the main menu and Paddock.
The Partner Spotlight Added Even More Switch 2 Games
Nintendo’s closing Partner Spotlight montage at the Nintendo Direct also confirmed or reiterated Switch 2 releases for 007 First Light, The Ascent Ultimate Edition, The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother, Bluey’s Happy Snaps, The Crew Motorfest, Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon -Classic HD-, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream, Fading Echo, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon – Classic Edition, Far Cry 3 Classic Edition, Hela: of Mice & Magic, Hell Is Us, Hot Wheels Infinite Rush, House Flipper 2, It Takes Two, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition, Palia – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Sonic Pico Park and Stellar Blade Complete Edition.
Of particular note, Stellar Blade Complete Edition arrives on November 5 with its crossover content and newly revealed Bayonetta costumes, while Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon -Classic HD- is available now after never previously receiving a Western release.
Nintendo Switch 2’s 2027 Lineup Is Filling Up Quickly
The September Nintendo Direct did not depend on a single megaton announcement. Instead, Nintendo paired several strong first-party reveals with a growing list of major third-party games that would have been hard to imagine running natively on Nintendo hardware.
Metroid Ravenous and Kirby and the World Beyond gave Nintendo two significant new exclusives for early 2027, while Persona 6, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Monster Hunter Wilds and the native Resident Evil releases continue to strengthen Switch 2’s third-party prospects.
Add Hyrule Warriors, Pikmin 4, Mega Man, Tomb Raider and a surprisingly substantial selection of smaller releases, and the next several months already look considerably busier than they did before the Nintendo Direct, and that’s good news.
