007 First Light’s Story Campaign Could Land Around 20 Hours

IO Interactive’s upcoming 007 First Light is set to be a cinematic spy action game from day one, but one question has hovered over the game: how substantial is the main story? New comments shared via YouTuber JorRaptor, following an interview with the game’s director, suggest the campaign is expected to take around 20 hours for the average player.

That number matters for players seeking a full campaign rather than a short showcase built mainly to feed post-launch modes. It also implies that IO Interactive is building a Bond story with room for escalation, variety of locations, and pacing shifts, rather than relying on a compact, single-idea structure.

A 20-hour estimate is still just that, an estimate. Completion time will naturally vary depending on difficulty, playstyle, and how much time players spend experimenting with stealth routes and gadget options. Still, it signals an intent to deliver a proper narrative experience, not a thin wrapper around systems.

Tactical Challenges Suggest a Second Track Beyond the Credits

IO Interactive is also set to include a mode called Tactical Challenge in 007 First Light, presented as scenario-based content focused on precision, planning, and execution. The concept is familiar in spirit, even if the branding is new: take a defined mission space, layer constraints and objectives, then encourage players to iterate until they hit cleaner runs.

This is where replayability appears to live. Instead of asking players to simply replay the campaign, Tactical Challenges can provide a parallel progression loop, particularly for players who enjoy optimising loadouts, routes, and gadget choices.

The mode also aligns with IO Interactive’s long-term content instincts. If Tactical Challenges are built to expand over time, they become a clean container for additional scenarios without constantly rewriting the main story. It is a practical way to extend longevity while keeping the campaign as a finished, authored experience.

If the campaign runtime lands close to the 20-hour mark and the Tactical Challenge layer delivers meaningful variety, 007 First Light could end up balancing two demands that often conflict: a satisfying single-player story and a reason to keep playing once it is done.

007 First Light launches May 27 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A Nintendo Switch 2 version has been confirmed, with release timing still unannounced.
